To Hear a Voice Virginia Salter From adolescence on didn’t want anyone to say I reminded them of my mother as much as I didn’t like hearing her say, “You’re like your father.” She never said it as a compliment. I lost her almost three years ago, now. Lots of pain, pain of missing her, pain in wondering... if there was something more I could have done, pain of her absence, pain of those smiles, those eye-twinkles that I so longed to see, that there was no more reason to hope for them. The pain of knowing the futility of hoping to hear her sing as she had when I was small. ~~~~~~~ Choir rehearsal, Wednesday, praising His holy name, receiving the blessing of His awesome power, in raising glorious strains, a sound, a melody, a tone reached my ears, coming from the depths of me, bringing me to tears. Just the fewest moments, just the simplest tones, her voice, in cheery reverence, indwelt my sinew and my bone.. Escaped my lips, pressed to my ears the awesome kindling love, the joy embodied in her voice, for these moments my intone. © January 27, 2001 |

VAS~ This touches me, as I hear the voices and find so much comfort in the messages they bring. 'Just the fewest moments, just the simplest tones, her voice, in cheery reverence, indwelt my sinew and my bone..' Yes ! I understand this so clearly. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |

Thank you Marge. Words are so frail to express fully an experience such as this was. I thank you for your encouraging response. |

I know this voice....and she says "you did what you could..." and he says "you did as you should..."...and I cry...because I would have them back, if I could...and then I loose them to the wind...and see them sparkle under the sun... |

Where is she now ? ~~~ A teardrop stains a cobblestone a world exhales a sigh The plea within a whispered thought spills out from hidden eye A distant promise on the wind drifts down from those above Unfolds a heart within its song then ... refills that world with love ~~~ I wrote this to my mom who I passed away just before Christmas ... and I miss her a lot ... as I also see here in your words |
