Enigmatic Sleep Virginia Salter sleep would drag me to slumber as I lumber evening hours yet if it be so, if I should go, what might be the price of absence might trees cry out might children shout might night affect the day could darkness bring the depth of sting and frighten me away should it be this world I see that whispers thoughts so pure that weaves a sleeve rolled up in glee and finds for life a cure might there be a mystery inside of me that escapes my waking hours and beautifies one’s wanting eyes as earth is dressed in flowers © January 25, 2001 |

Virginia, this is beautiful! Well done...I liked it a lot! Just see how virtue repays you, you turn and someone betrays you Betray him first, and the game's reversed... -from The Scarlet Pimpernel |

Thanks, Elizabeth. I have to admit I like the feel of this one, but I really don't know what it's message is, if any. that's why I say, 'could it be insanity?' |

EAch posted response seems to help me sort out the enigma of this piece. Yours, especially, Kethry, though even as I've looked up trammel in the dictionary, the word is still a bit of a puzzle. It sounds, though, as either you've had trouble sleeping, or you must head to work before you've had your fill. Either way, I hope your day is blessed with the needed energy and that your coming night, with sleep, peaceful sleep. |

Very interesting poem, Virginia. I like these things that either never really reveal themselves or reveal several selves all at once. I don't know which this is, but it works anyway. Go figure. Maybe you wrote this in a state of semisleep? I have done several pieces in that brief time between my ordinary day and my sleep, things I know I would not have done, maybe could not have done in the middle of the day. ??? |

might there be a mystery inside of me that escapes my waking hours and beautifies one’s wanting eyes as earth is dressed in flowers Virginia, absolutely lovely -- I love the expectancy found in the closing stanza. Robert Joseph |

Thank you Krawdad and Robert Joseph. You are now among those who seem chosen to help reveal the very nature and message of this poem. Though it came through my hands and thoughts were thought as I wrote, I really did not know exactly what this piece said. Still don't, but I am comfortable with that. It seems to go along with the enigma that is surely present. Krawdad, I certainly believe you are right. I was feeling extremely sleepy as I wrote this. I don't even recall if I was able to write it all in one sitting. I think I did, but did not consider it finished until the next time I went to it and placed the date on it. Thank you both very much! |
