I think I know myself quite well. I know what makes me tick. Like all, I have my good and bad And so-so....take your pick. I think I can present myself As being fairly wise. I wonder, though, how I must look In someone else's eyes. If I were looking at myself From someone else's view, Would I see those same qualities I feel that I imbue? Or would I see myself a fool, A not so valued prize, When judged beneath the scrutiny Of someone else's eyes? The confidence I feel inside - Does it come out as vain? Do words I speak at foolish moments Serve to foster pain? When I display my cunning wit To get a little rise, Does it come out as cruelty In someone else's eyes? I try to be sincere. I try To be the best I can, To live my life the best I know And be a friend to man. Do I appear to be a friend Or villain in disguise When held up to the judgment of Somebody else's eyes? Sometimes I'd like to take my hands And open wide my skin To give the world a chance to know The soul who lies within. Would it be as expected or Would it be a surprise If we could ever see ourselves In someone else's eyes? |

Reposts, or not...it's what in the heart that counts as coming through the eyes that can see.... Karilea If I whisper, will you listen?... I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound. KRJ |

I don't think I'd WANT to see myself as others think of me! |

Was just talking about this with a friend. How I wish you all could see yourselves through the eyes of my heart--the way that I do. You, especially, m'butterbean. |

Sometimes I'd like to take my hands And open wide my skin To give the world a chance to know The soul who lies within. Would it be as expected or Would it be a surprise If we could ever see ourselves In someone else's eyes? ==================== you need not open your skin.... you only need to write... with in the words...lies the window to the soul... it is thru our eyes...that you should see you... you are a "thing of beauty to behold" poetic wisdom and grace... with a heart of gold...and the soul of a poet (lest not forget those lips of spam) later-looking at you-gator jm Sprayed across my heart and hers Danced butterflies in the wild This angel, this woman , who loves me with the innocence of a child. ~DeVante~ |

Bal- from time to time i ponder these same thoughts, though not quite so poetically or as with much grace as you have! excellent poem...i think in my personal opinion it is not how others judge us, but more importantly what we think of ourselves. afterall, we are the one who has to look in the mirror. but i can tell ya from this "other person's eyes" i see a man who is full of a loving heart and kind soul. i echo what JM said! take care. ~amy~ |

My dearest man, your poetry shows us everyday deep into the soul of who you are and I must tell you the soul of you I see is honest, true, wise and loving. Never think you appear less than the wonderful man you are. I have watched and seen the love you show for all and the love given back in return. It takes a man of special heart and soul to get the response you do. Keep lighting our lives with your wonderful soul, dear one, for it is delightsome to behold. Much love to you from me. Love I leave with you my friend whether it be in your life or of yet the essense of your dreams. http://path2riches.com |

These are thoughts worth thinking, and beautifully said, too. Judging from the responses, you come off pretty well in "someone else's eyes". It was Burns who asked for the gift "to see ourselves as others see us", wasn't it? That could be a mixed blessing, I think, but evidently you have an honest enough soul to pass the test. And you write beautiful poetry, too! I think I'm in love! To love another person is to see the face of God. - Les Miserables Marilyn |

If the eyes are reflecting your own kind, sincere, caring, true self, then they are the right ones. What is that you express in your eyes? It seems to me more than all the words I have read in my life. Walt Whitman |

I see a wonderful poet, within a lot of magic words and I am glad, that he loves to pour those magic words inhere, and show us how he speaks from the heart. so so I like what I see with my eyes. ((hugs)) Charisma |

I think we all examine ourselves from time to time, we all wonder if what we say is interpreted how we meant it to be interpreted. This comes from the emotions that drive us all, and as each are different, so too are our choices of words to convey those feelings to another. Understanding comes from those who 'feel' the same, but that does not make others ignorant, simply unaware, or not in tune with our own particular harmony. Good poetry. If you could see you from my eyes, Your essence you would realize. Reflections from perception's view Would echo off the true of you. In you I see a tender soul With facets multiple, in whole A Poet's love and spirit's heart Combined with truths you do impart. If you could see you from my view, You'd see the you inside of you Which shines, illuminated by The iridescence of the sky. As Jupiter is setting on Horizons which have come and gone -- If you could see you as I do, Your constellation would shine through. There is no mirror to a soul Except when Love has taken hold. If you could see you as I do, You'd see respect I have for you. Your heart is open, gentle, kind -- If you could see you from my mind, You'd see how much I treasure you.... If you could see you as I do. [This message has been edited by doreen peri (edited 12-03-2000).] |
