INSIDE OF ME

What is this thing that I can’t see?
This thing that grows inside of me.
I bear the scar, been cut before,
But now this thing’s come back for more…
…As all my life’s put to the test
Of one demon I’ll never best,
…As soon they’ll raise their blades, again,
To purge me of my mortal sin.

While mirrors bring me no surprise,
An empty man with vapid eyes,
I count my days in full duress
Of knowing few who’ll garner less.
For what’s Reality avail
To those whom Immunity fail?
But lack of choice and lack of chance
In mirrors with no backward glance.

If in time-riven dreams of play
Or childhood memories slipped away -
If in the barren waste of hope
From which I feign the strength to cope -
I’ll give no selfish cries of “why”,
For all, I know, in time must die…
But give my time the best I can
For after all, I’m just a man.

Yet while they’re deep inside my chest,
Let all demons be laid to rest.
Let all who know me understand
I came to this, not of my hand -
But of a choice I would not grieve,
For above all, I do “believe”…
And despite what the doctors see,
There’s life, in love, inside of me.

Michael Anderson

But dreams of those who dream as I,
Aspiringly, are damned and die.

Okay...forgive me while I type a "wow".

And secondly, please reassure us that you okay.

Finally, this is very moving and poignantly written. Was the "wine" at my poetic feast today. Smiles to you. Incredible, as always.

Michael-Why does there have to be so much hurt in life?, yet you express it well. Sometimes it can't be controlled and it's not by our choice.  These are the days you take a day at a time and are thankful for simple things in life, the smile or hug of a child can take away some of the hurt. Here's wishing you happiness and hugs.  Take care, my friend.

God you break my heart when you write like this ...
the depth of which you bleed poetically still amazes and awes me..even after all this time ...
and always touches and cuts deep.
M, you already know how I feel about the emotions of this poem...and why...

"Let all who know me understand
I came to this, not of my hand -
But of a choice I would not grieve,
For above all, I do “believe”…
And despite what the doctors see,
There’s life, in love, inside of me."

I do know and I do believe...I have seen your light in your words, in your poetry.
I dont doubt you for a second ...
and the best part of all is the line above where you say you believe in you.
YOU are a gift...so is your poetry.
take care of you,

Startime, Nice to meet you.  Thank you very much for the compliment.

serenity, Well, I'd like to reassure you all is o.k. but I can't at this point.  A mass of some sort has developed in my chest.  I will be having yet another surgery come Monday to remove it.  What it is / what exactly has caused it remains to be seen.  Will keep you all posted.

Gemini, There is MUCH hurt to life, indeed.  Sometimes it seems more so fore some than others too - but it's the hurt that makes you appreciate all those little things so much more in the end I think.  There is much more to be thankful for than the hurt could ever erase, at least in my case.     Thank you.

bestgirl, All is as well as can be expected.  At least I don't have to go through any of this alone... that would truly be devistating to me.

Janet, You are a true friend.  You are one who helped me find the light in my own poetry even when I didn't always want to see it.  Thank you, dear.

...and thank you all for the kind replies.

~Hands Of Healing~

I wish for hands of healing ...
for an empowered, gentle touch.
So that I might lay my hands on you,
so that I might be your crutch.

I wish for understanding eyes ...
for vision to see on thru.
So that I might help you to see,so that thru my eyes
you might finally see the light that shines in you.

I wish for a forgiving heart ...
for the gift of unconditional love so true.
So that I might share this gift so rare,
so that love's venial touch would then embrace you.

I wish for an enchanted poets pen ...
for which to write perfect rhyme and verse.
So that I might find the words to say,
so that I might write the lines that would free you of this curse.

All these things I hope and pray for ...
all these things I ask for on bended knee.
So that I might spare you all this pain,
so that I might find the way to set your heart free.

Janet Marie

"For after all, I’m just a man."

This line is my favorite line because if you change the last word to woman it would be describing my feelings perfectly.

What is that you express in your eyes? It seems to me more than all the words I have read in my life.

Oh Michael...I don't even know what to say.  You've blessed me with your friendship and with your guidance when I've needed it, you write phenomenal poetry, and you're a wondrous person.  This is poignant and sad my friend...I'll keep you in my heart and in my prayers.  I hope that all goes well.

Michael* I've been in "awe" of your writing
since the very first days I came to passions
and this poem is the reason why...you speak
to my heart and you pour out yours...all I
can say Michael is that I understand...and
tell you that yes my friend...you DO deserve
Love and Life...and you'll be in my prayers.

Big HUSG sweetheart....hang in there and you know scars are added bits of personality...soul maps of who we are, where we've been, where we're going and the added treasure of who we'll be when we get there, others just have to follow the route...

I just want to say thank you to each and every one of you for the overwhelming responce... and for all your prayers.  Please forgive me for not listing each of you individually.  I do have faith that all will be fine after the surgery Monday.  I have too much waiting for me at home in the forms of Linda and Mikey to believe otherwise.

Again, thank you all.

For above all, I do “believe”…
And despite what the doctors see,
There’s life, in love, inside of me.

You sure do, and did, and do, and glory be!  Thanks to JM for directing me to this unbelievably heartfelt poem.  It seems that a prayer was answered.
