Echo: (Greek Mythology) A nymph whose unrequited love for Narcissus caused her to pine away until nothing but her voice remained The echo of this poet’s voice lingers deep in wooded glen Words of love, of hope, of joy foretell what would have been Silenced by the love not taken she wipes her teary cheeks Afraid to sing the name of love to name the one she seeks If unsaid words could echo would love shine upon his face Or would she see him turn away deny her heart’s loving grace We will never know the truth from the one she would adore Only the echo of her heart is heard because the poet speaks no more [This message has been edited by Poet deVine (edited 11-30-2000).] |

What a beautiful poem Sharon and yes thanks for the lesson on Echo. I especially loved these lines ....... We will never know the truth from the one she would adore Only the echo of her heart is heard because the poet speaks no more sad, but beautiful! Thank you my friends for your kind words. I was working on another poem and search for something to fit that...I came across this definition and something clicked. I'm glad you like this..it's got a very special meaning for me. |

reading your posts is NEVER a disapointment - unrequited love is never satisfying - it almost gives lie to the concept that "it is better to have loved and lost..." I hope you find a better object for your very worthy attention ~sigh~ |

This one truly hit home for me...I have only posted 1 of my poems here because that was the last time I wrote. When he was gone, so were the words. I keep coming back, drawn to the beauty of what I can read...if no longer write. You have spoken eloquently what I feel...thank you. Cindi |

Smiling over here. I love the mythology, as you know...your talent continually amazes me. (And your web site is quite a wonderful read!) |

PdV, Loved this one!! But, you know, a chance not taken is lost forever . . . LW Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

deVine one, this is really good. Yes, I know about Echo, being a big devotee of mythology. What an excellent topic to use for a poem...and you did it just right! |

Very nice Sharon... Perhaps the Echo would better resound upon a mountain side.. It's a voice that certainly would be heard if not in wooded glen... Nice poetry, my friend.. |
