Teach me your secrets, knower of the word
Secrets that have been kept since the dawn of time
Teach me the music to songs never heard

Your very first song was that of the bird
Giving to his song your very first rhyme
Teach me your secrets, knower of the word

Let my words speak to the floundering herd
Help me to speak with a voice true and fine
Teach me the music to songs never heard

When the sun above is by clouds obscured
Give me words of love to make the sunshine
Teach me your secrets, knower of the word

O let my soul's voice never be deterred
Let me share with them the songs that are mine
Teach me the music to songs never heard

Since the dawn of the age, your words have stirred
With joy and love in each and every line
Teach me your secrets, knower of the word
Teach me the music to songs never heard

A perfect way to honor our teacher of grace...by writing in one of the many forms she has inspired us to try...
so many lessons in poetry and generosity can be learned by her example.
you have captured her well.

Someone who sits and composes with books in her lap...a true creator of passionate prose...sharing knowledge and wisdom...who could ask for more? We can, when it comes from Sven in tribute...

Sven~
This is just flows so liltingly.

Perfect tribute to a wonderful, wonderful lady.
The timecapsule of Passions would just have to include
a special memento of Nan's.
She is always there with a good word for all.
Her poetry is a true reflection of the grace of a learned mind.

Your portrait is beautiful !

Sven, my friend... This is absolutely wonderful... Thank you for writing it, and for the wonderful greeting card - I looked for it here on the forum after I received the card, and didn't see it... went back to the card.. tracked it down... and I sincerely thank you.. and the rest of my poetic friends here for your wonderfully supportive words...

Don't tell anyone, but I have a wheelbarrow that I take with me everywhere I go... I keep my pen, paper, and my "Rhyming Dictionaurus" in it -  Hey, maybe I should actually write a book like that...

Whatever you write, Nan, will be strung with lines of magical words, of brilliant phrases, that will be read by future generations. Sven, this is a perfect tribute to the teacher poetic expression, the queen of eloquence, the knower of words

A beautiful villanelle, I've only attempted two of these, and I love the form and the structure.  Nice work, Sven.
