Sunshine shimmers across the lake Reflecting into prisms of light It appears to dance over the waves Until reaching the sandy shore There it warms my skin And soothes my weary soul Basking in this feeling I relive the dreams of yesterday The first vision is of you On the day in August when we met So many years and memories ago Even then I knew you were the one A love that innocently blossomed Out of a friendship we forged Grew to encompass our lives Mirroring heartfelt promises of tomorrow At just the sound of your voice My heart would leap to life To beat in rhythm with your own Wherever we were and wherever we went Looking back I thought you'd always be there My lighthouse guiding the way home Down the pathway to the future Where we promised to dwell forevermore Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

Doesn't it seem that nothing turns out the way we think it will? Happens to me quite a bit. Liked this much. Elizabeth |

Ah..so sad. But as we remember, we should also look forward....put those memories in your heart and lock it. Then move to the future... |

this is incredibly beautiful. Look within the heart of a poet, and you will see a reflection of their soul. |

Bittersweet! This is so beautiful and somewhat sad LW. Even in the end...we'll always have our memories. Wonderful expression...... ~Sheri "The things that come to those that wait may be the things left by those who got there first" |

LoneWolf~ What a lovely heart you have to hold these wonderful memories. Takes a special heart to do that, sweet lady. Enjoy your memories and hold them close. They are worth remembering. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |

LW~ this is beautifully sad! one of my favorite pieces of yours...i've said it before and i'll say it again, you got talent in spades girlie! looking back isn't a bad thing, in fact sometimes it's good to reflect, just don't forget to look forward too. keep the memories, and learn from the past. i can't predict the future but my bet is you will find love again. and when you do, the pain you have gone through will stand for something. take care my friend. ~amy~ |

Poet de Vine stole the words right from my heart, LJ; I couldn't have said it any better. And I believe it too. Hang in there...remember it all, and move on, with it a part of your soul. jwesley |

This is beautiful poetry from your heart. Full of hope for new beginnings. I loved it, Jennifer. What is that you express in your eyes? It seems to me more than all the words I have read in my life. Walt Whitman |

I am a little overwhelmed by the responses this one received. I just want to thank you all for your kind replies and for reading my work. I appreciate it. This one is so special, maybe others didn't have a chance to read it! I can fix that "If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you." Winnie the Pooh |

the past always holds the better days... a beautiful writing. i usually find it hard to get into poems that don't rhyme (mostly cuz they lack rhythm), but i thoroughly enjoyed this one. it's a reminder that hindsight can't be 20/20 if it's too clouded with tears... beatiful sentiments.
