Was I, Once? Virginia Salter tooling along on her scooter sling bag over her left shoulder hair, bouncy crop of deep licorice tiny-lensed shades relaxed grip on handles heading home sent me back to carefree days a kid with Saturday to meander through endless, timeless hours I was different, though never petite never had tiny little hip pockets sashaying... o’ course back then, when I was ten girls only wore dresses, skirts never had an eighteen-inch waist not in my makeup even when I was svelte ha-ha, never was ‘cept, now, when I see my pics time-frozen images skinny at sixteen, even then, twenty-four inch waist reverie interrupted hooligans at play playing keep-away with some boy’s jacket there she is again popped right back into my environ hollerin’, smilin’, gettin’ in on the ‘fun!’ Youth! Virginia, I sometimes ask myself that very same question when I see children on the streets playing and letting the world pass by as they create their own memories. This was so wonderfully illustrated by you that I almost found myself dazing into a moment of reflection. Loved it much. |
