Ableton Of Gastburs
-I-
Long were his years of Gastburs
His sword hung askew upon the wall
A knight with no armor, he
Had fought with the best and all.
-II-
A gentle hand he laid toward his wife
And daughters, they numbered five
A gentleman of honor
Who knew what a gift it was to be alive.
-III-
And came the end for Ableton
His time was due it seemed
And Death came a-riding
His cruel sickle agleam.
-IV-
Poor Ableton kissed his love
Who sat by his side for countless years
And who shed the quietest of grief
And tried to hide her tears.
-V-
The sword upon the wall was lit
With a fire from the very walls
As a clatter came echoing
From some intrusion in the halls.
-VI-
Knights in armor clattered everywhere
“Death must pass us first” they- sang
And still Death came and entered the home
Clawed hands and bared fang.
-VII-
The knights gathered closely still
Preparing to die for the great of this man
And his wife was sorrowed, but still
As she held tightly to his hand.
-VIII-
Ableton knew not what to do,
The faith of his men drew a smile
And he wondered if he could defeat Death
And live on, yet for awhile.
-IX-
Death banged and clashed and took
The souls of the defending men
He looked at Ableton, exhausted and
Whispered, “We will meet again.”
-X-
Lord Ableton sat down hard
His face in his hands.
His wife kissed him with desperation
For Death still haunted the man.

DragonPoe~
I don't know why I was drawn to this -
or why I enjoyed it so -
but, please know that I did !

Thank you for sharing, talented poetess.
