The Mother Earth’s Cry Karen Torbiak 2000 The night sky twinkles with countless numbers of stars drawing the eye in awed wonder about this universe we live in Oleatrie sits atop the hill in the midst of the forest of Camarthon, wrapping herself in the velvet quiet of the night The stars draw her eye and though she knows not all their names, for she is yet but 15, she feels the power they send across space to her heightened senses She has been taught of the great weapons bequeath to the earth and seen the omens that announce the coming for the time of their need She sighs for she also knows they are lost and each of the thirteen must be found to fulfill the great need all on and in the earth shall have She opens her spirit placing her hands on the earth before her that she may feel the call and language of mother earth In shock she pulls back her hand quickly from the painful tremors that flowed like a current up her arms as the earth cried out to her spirit in great pain With great hesitation she reached out again to the earth settling into letting her spirit hear the heart of the earth instantly showing in her face the pain that was coursing through her soul Determined to understand Oleatrie blended her spirit with mother earth and almost bolted as terror overwhelmed her IT was coming down from the north the very earth was being devastated as it slowly advanced south leaving burning and destruction in it’s wake The most terrifying part was that the earth could not heal itself after IT past through leaving behind emptiness where once there was lushness and health Oleatrie was in shock for it felt to her like the very soul of mother earth was dying in the most painful way as IT stripped Her of all life both on and in Her Oleatrie felt the taring and ripping as if it was her own arm being pulled from her body leaving such a feeling of pain and emptiness that it left her in deep shock She was immobile as she listened to the deep painful cries coming from mother earth and felt helpless to ease a pain that was so consuming leaving her with silent tears running unnoticed down her face Finally being able to bare it no more she jumped to her feet and started running to the elders praying that they could do something to stop the rape taking place but knowing to her very soul that this was what all the omens had been warning about and now was coming to pass NOW the day is here which had been told of from the beginning From the very exodus all has been kept to prepare for the day the Mother Earth would cry out as her soul was ripped from the very core of her Love I leave with you my friend whether it be in your life or of yet the essense of your dreams. http://www.voy.com/7622/ http://www.powerpoems.com |

Oh Karen I get so lost in your poems when you get the brewing imagination flowing onto the page. Well it's another way to tell the truth about what we're doing to our very earth and I'm so proud of you for saying/writing it in a way I will remember....ethome |

Wow, what an exquisitely woven tale...the sad part is that day may be close at hand..extraordinary writing, I got totally lost in your vision. *Krista Knutson* I'm a slow dying flower In a frost-killing hour The sweet turning sour and untouchable... -Natalie Merchant |
