*inspired by a song by Trisha Yearwood* I'd almost forgotten about that day, the day that I first heard your voice singing to my heart that gentle cadence so unmistakable that it can only be the melody of a love to come the song came quietly on the radio a song I hadn't heard since that day simple in its melody and in its word it took me back to that one day when I first heard you sing it I didn't know you were singing to me until that day when my heart heard you they were amazed that I could for love had never really sang to me before but my soul knew your soul's song you opened the doors of my heart that day bringing it back from the dead opening my eyes from a loveless existence showing me that I could know love too that my life nee not be lonely you brought your song into harmony with mine sharing with me your thoughts about love helping me re-write the story of my life making the words leap from the page rhyme and meter together once again and now, I write once again of your love a love that many dream of, that only few know I'd almost forgotten about that day the day that I first heard your voice but, the song remembers when. . . ----------------------------------------------------------------- < !signature--> That which gives light must endure burning --Victor Frankl [This message has been edited by Sven (edited 01-04-2001).] |

This is lovely, Sven. Melodies do bring back memories so clearly. *S* I'll never be able to listen to Chantilly Lace and hear The Big Bopper... for every time it plays, my heart hears a voice of whiskey and velvet and promises singing to me. *S* |

Hey Sven you and Tricia should get together because your words are excellent too...you know it's funny, I was thinking about that song the other day, and now you're writing your rendition which I might add is excellent! |

Sven, the song remembers when and the heart remembers who. Good combination huh? And I'm going to say it anyway although you don't need me to. Absolutly hypnotic you Svengali, you. Keth Those of us who refuse to risk and grow get swallowed up by life. Patty Hansen. |

Sven, How beautiful and reminiscent of those days gone by we yearn to hold on to. Songs can make the heart dance again, and transport us back in time when the melody was not listened to alone. I could really relate to this lovely work of art! Muc love, Elise |

Superb piece of penning the emotions of the heart when it is called upon to reflect back on those special moments. I applaud your work in this one. |

Your poem is nicely written even if teh idea is borrowed. The SOng Rememebrs WHen is my favorite Trisha Yearwood SOng and I have always loved the idea because inmy own life, music is so important it defines every special memory I have....the songs hold them all. I am pleased somany others experience life in that same way. And hey, I borrow lines and ideas for jumping off points all the time, I would be careful tho because that title is copyrighted..... |

Just a note to let Beki know that the title is something that can't be totally copyrighted...many songs have the same title. ...but the lyrical content and the melody is another matter...example: when George Harrison recorded 'My Sweet Lord' it was discovered that the melody was exactly the same as A Shirells song...can't remember which one? but Harrison had to pay restitution to the Shirells after they sued him for stealing their melody....and he did...said he must have used the melody subconsciously?? But the title....cannot be totally copyrighted...just a point for Sven and I know Beki meant well by what she wrote....thanks ethome |

As a song lover this made me hope that in the next life, if there is one, I come back as a songwriter. I enjoyed this very much. "Every man dies. Not every man truly lives." Braveheart Kathleen |

This is beautiful, Sven...some melodies are never forgotten. And agreeing with Ethome...titles are not covered by copyright law.....just content is. Denise [This message has been edited by dsnyder (edited 01-04-2001).] |

I have always found this amazing, how a certain song or even just a few notes or lyrics can transport us back to a time and place. This has happened to me so many times. Great write, as always. Sandra |

SVEN, it's so sweet that you write a poem of this nature and share it with us today because just earlier this afternoon I was thinking almost the same thing... It's intriguing to me, how and why music and/or lyrics can pop into the forefront of our thoughts and from nowhere transport our minds and sometimes sway our hearts to the feelings of that special moment in time... You did very well here PoetFriend in this write you share with us and I most enjoyed the read... [This message has been edited by CocoBaci (edited 01-04-2001).] |
