i sat in the bookstore reading poetry
when i felt someone staring at me
maybe a tiny child or elderly lady
i glanced up so i could see..

it was just a few days after my birthday
when i saw you the very first time
i tried to pretend you were not there
as my heartbeats began to climb

Standing tall in your blue jeans
painted upon your long legs
in the aura of your eyes.. blue gray
yes..i was having a bad hair day

i moved my hair to the side
and smiled and said hello
you said "there are not many redheads
in this town of Amarillo"...

I said "I had not noticed"
you said you hadnt either until now
i moved my hair again from over my brow

we shared a cup of coffee steamy and hot
i loved the way you played your lips
upon the edge of the cup
playing me like a harmonica
i wished i had gussied up

just when i dont wear any makeup
was the day you would appear
the day i could of cared less
you were grinning ear to ear

you asked me for my phone number
but you didnt call
not until one month later
your voice echoed off my walls
whispers galloped through my skin
i again seen your image standing tall
you invited  me to your dude ranch
down an old dirt road i drove
you sat upon your horse
near a lovely orchard grove

i think im the only woman
in texas not driving a truck
i waved to you out the window
your stallion began to buck
i pulled my mazda to the side
you sat tall in your saddle
holding a rope of rawhide

you watched every move i made
i  walked slowly over to you
one hundred degrees in the shade
always a windy day in Amarillo
the wind in my hair played

you descended your saddle
and wrapped your arms around me
only the second time i saw you
the tumbleweeds in the wind blew

i stood shaded under your hat
i thought your kiss would never end
my lipstick melted upon yours lips
i felt more than a lady friend

your horse trotted away
your kiss enticed me to stay
following your silver spurs
to golden sheets of hay

enjoyed the read especially loved the lines,

"i loved the way you played your lips
upon the edge of the cup
playing me like a harmonica"

You told this story so wonderfully that I didn't want it to end.  I know the story didn't stop there but from where you left it I don't know that it could continue in here.  This is one of your best writes so far I believe and I look forward to seeing you write another like this soon.

Victoria-I liked the passion you provoked in this one. From one redhead to another, I think I may also have to venture out sometime and check out some spurs.
