Dedicated to Ray Walston, the actor who played 'Uncle Martin' with so much charm, humor and creative spirit. Ray Walston passed away today. Rest in peace.

How to describe the feeling
The moment we begin to grieve
Far better to rejoice in
What he made us believe

We believed back then in UFO’s
In a man with antennas flaring
We believed in brotherhood
That began with a sense of caring

And though we now are grown
We will always claim to be a fan
Of the uncle we knew as a Martian
And the Martian we knew as a man

Ray Walston left a legacy of hope
That in humor we would learn
That space is not terrible place
That tolerance is something to earn

Today, our ‘Favorite Martian’
Left this earthly place
With a wiggle of his finger
He exited with grace.

This is a very nice tribute to a man who brought much pleasure. He was the first one who brought my attention to UFO's and men from Mars when I was a young girl.

And what about his character in 'Fast Times At Ridgemont High'? I loved him!

He was 86 and died of natural causes...

Ray Walston was everyone's kind uncle, and made "science fiction" real...in a humorous sort of way...

and as an irascible judge, I loved him!  I shall miss him...hard to think he was 46 when he starred as My Favorite Martian...

gives me lots and lots of hope for better times to come!  Thank you deVine!

What a great actor he was, and he will always be remembered for his versatility, and talent.  You provided a fitting and beautifully written tribute to my personal favorite Martian, and he would be pleased.
He's on my tv right now, and will live on.

Write on!

Okay, I confess, I remember him more as "Mr. Hand" or was it "Hawn" LOL...hard to tell the way 'Spiccoli' said it, from Fast Times...but thanks for the tribute...he was a treasure!

Morning Poet deVine,

A very nice tribune to the earthly martian, and well done. I did enjoy the TV show, and looked forward to watching it, whenever I could.
