Poison of Wormwood runs through me through my blood in my lungs everywhere it chokes me slowly slowly it coaxes me to death I long for someone to hold me but no I have the poison no one will ever hold me but the poison even it will abandon me when it accomplishes its mission it will leave me when I am dead oh but it is a long and painful death it will win somehow I know I will die because of the poison the poison will kill me and as much as I hate it so too does it hate me all people hate the poison but to those who are cursed with it it is far more than revolting it is terrifying it is greedy it will suck out life to sustain itself and that is the way I will die I will die for the poison flows through me |

This piece is very powerful both in content and imagery, the repeated references to poison drive the message home. Very touching and thought provoking. Thank you. Regards, Olias. |

sexyILN, Welcome to Passions, I don't know what thought or feeling to work in as far as toward considering what you mean with "poison", it sounds like a disease or perhaps a deadly addiction. It's disturbing to read the lack of hope you express toward being able to overcome whatever it is. I just hope you find a way to eventually free yourself and feel better. Overall your poem is very powefully written and I look forward to reading more from you. Thanks for sharing. take care, Poeminister "...no single sound too rude upon thy slumber shall intrude, Our thoughts, our souls- O God above! In every deed shall mingle, love." -Poe |

My interpretation is this. I think that the writer is consumed with a bitterness. A bitterness that he/she knows will eat away at them until it leaves them alone and broken and near death. At that time he/she knows they will long for the company and love of someone, anyone. The bitterness will be gone but so too, will be all hope of love or compassion. They know that the bitterness will leave them to die alone. How did I do ?? Some men see things as they are and ask "WHY ?" I see things as they could be and ask "WHY NOT ?" |

Thanks OLIAS, Poeminister, ethome and Shelby Olivia. I appreciate your comments. Lonely Stranger, you came pretty close. To me, this is about the people we know who are the "rejects". No one likes them, and everyone makes fun of them. The poison of wormwood, (Don't ask how I came up with that name)is loserdom. But how I interpret the poem and how you interpret the poem will always be different and no one is wrong. Poems mean different things to different people. I appreciated you opinion. I thought it was interesting and I had never thought of my poem that way before. To me this sounds like love. Love that never comes or always goes...sounds like when you say you'll die from the poisen its saying you'll die from being alone. |

The fact that this piece opens so many doors as far as what it means....is excellent in itself. Wonderful post and Welcome to Passions ~Sheri "The things that come to those that wait may be the things left by those who got there first" |

sexyILN, welcome to passions. Btw the term wormwood comes from the Bible, it means bitterness. It's also a bitter plant from which "Absinthe" is made Write on Kethry Why do yesterdays remain and todays pass by ...unnoticed? Rex E. Alford |

I found this extremely interesting...and yes, I too related to it as a deadly addiction. Wormwood being both the main ingredient in absynthe (an herbal liqueur) banned in the U.S. in the 1800's for it's highly addictive, hallucinogenic properties...it drove people quite mad, with its crippling degenerative effects---and also WORMWOOD is the name of the star in The Book of Revelation, which fell to earth poisoning the waters of the earth. (Rev. 8:11) Either way, it is much to ponder, and made for an interesting read. I thank you much! The implications are fascinating! |
