I am not a cowboy, ...who rides the open range, I am just a farm boy, ...whose dog once had the mange. Ain't got no use for city lights, ...nor use for city's din, I like the plains of Kansas, ...that's where I've always been. I don't wear no pretty boots, ...a' made of ostrich skin, Worn out boots or tennis shoes, ...I'll put my flat feet in. Ain't got no use for French cuisine, ...except for maybe fries, Big city skylines, neon lights, ...no match for Kansas skies. I laugh at high-priced pickups, ...I see them all the time, What's the use to drive a truck, ...not covered with some grime. Tomato beer and salted nuts, ...that'll suit me fine, Boone's Farm with a twist of lime, ...now that's a cultured wine. I got married at eighteen, ...got me a pretty wife, Had four kids and held a job, ...had not too bad a life. I went to school, learned fancy words, ...got me a law degree. And when I get a hankerin', ...I write some poetry. But then I hit the big four eight, ...my job I up and quit, Four kids away in college, ...my wife done had a fit. But things worked out, and we'll make do, ...new job I start next week, Not bad for Kansas farm boy, ...who is a poetry geek. |

Mike I seem to remember a cowboy poem you wrote a while back..and it was VERY good. You may not be a cowboy..you may be a poetry geek..but you're OUR poetry geek and we won't trade you in for a million cowboys in tight jeans...(well, could we maybe have just ONE?) |

Thanks, Mike for the portrait. You are my kind of guy. Now I know where all the beautiful landscapes in your poetry come from. Your wife shouldn't worry. Everything will turn out all right. Just publish a book! Liz |
