Mama Said Don't Go Fishing ...
~*Marge Tindal*~

Mama said, "Don't go fishing,
unless you've got the bait."
Papa said, "That foolishness
will just have to wait."

So I got to thinking,
I'd like to try a'fishing.
Gathered up my bait,
ambled to the lake just a'wishing.

Sammy's pappy told him
"Son, now you been told.
Don't you ever go fishing,
unless you got a pole."

Sammy thought about it
and decided it was time,
to check out the fishing hole
that was on his mind.

Sammy cast his fishing line
in the waters over there.
Sat and contemplated,
the catch that he would snare.

I saw Sammy fishing,
and being very bold,
I asked if I could take a look
at his fishing pole !

I said, "Now, Sammy,
you ain't got no bait."
"But I've got just what it takes
to pull that fish from the lake."

Sammy looked at me
with a quizzical gaze of surprise.
When I showed him my bait,
you should'a seen his eyes !

What Sammy didn't know was,
that with just one look,
not only did I have the bait,
I also had the hook !

Now that we are wedded,
Sammy tells our little stinkers,
"I fell for your mama
hook, line, bait and sinker !"

ROFLMBO...........oh yeah, this is the way it happens.   Just when we think we are in for a day of nothing but fun and play we end up shopping for china and silverware. Thank you my friend.  I needed this one bad.

Hi Marge,

A very nice ending that I didn't expect, and a very nicely written poem about going fishing.

My "ex" taught me how to fish... Gotta reel 'em in really slowly...just enough slack on the line so they don't feel it... if'n it's a big'n, you can alway net'em when they get along side the boat.... um.... funny... he got away....

This is reely cute, ya know???...

Cute! lol
My mama told me... "you better shop around"
Your poem brings that song to mind. I bet you could come up with a cute poem, if you know that song.

you've no idea how much or how long I laughed reading this - the tears are STILL running down my face. and to think I almost didn't read it. I wish I could come up with something witty like 'reel' etc but the only 'fishing' phrase that comes to mind 'are you going to fish or cut bait' really seems inappropriate   Thank you so very much - this one really made my day

I'm sooooo glad you asked.
I was driving down the road, minding my own business
during the Christmas shopping rush ...
on the side of the road, a couple was fishing -
and that darned little car muse started to sing !
HONEST !
When I got to Wal-Mart, I grabbed a pen and wrote down the lead in line ...
Sooooo ... because I had to wrap presents when I got home -
I parked this one and just got around to it.

It did a little flopping alright !

You're a doll !
*Hugs* n' stuff !
