The Lioness

The night was young
with moon so full
and the sun just setting
beyond the horizon-
as the mountain lioness
stretched and yawned
lifted her head
and opened her eyes on
the eve of nocturnal.

Yet night passes quickly,
becomes another day
and is counted as years
on the threshold of an eon-
as the mountain lioness
follows an instinct
inherited from others
so that her watch should be on
this eve of eternal.

I enjoyed reading this and seeing the image of this lioness in my mind.  I've felt this way often, as if I'm following my "instincts" and wondering why!

Robert, I could relate to this, I once wrote a poem about a panther with a similar theme, so I enjoyed this.
write on, belong.

Great poem, Robert! You painted a vivid picture and I love the way you express things that we all have experienced but can't quite put into words!

Thank you again Denise....and you too janet.

I really like this poem (I don't like many that I write) because it takes me from here to eternity.

RobertB~
I like the feel of this one -

'opened her eyes on
the eve of nocturnal.'

'on the threshold of an eon'
'so that her watch should be on
this eve of eternal.'

Transports me from where I am through to where I will be.

Really nicely written, Robert.

Yours gave me this thought...

"and looked I through my golden eye
and saw the eagle in blue of high...
my watch to stand, in grave solitude
resplendent form of quietude"

well done Robert B
