***My grandfather went to Jesus 11 years ago today, so I thought I'd post this here in his memory. Thank you for reading.***

Christmas Eve is here again
And I feel a twinge of sorrow
Although the day of God’s birth
Is coming in the morrow

As I gaze up at the stars
My pain is clearly shown
As I think to Christmas Eve
Eleven years ago

That day was clear and cold and bright
You had called an hour before
That night, my mother told me
That I couldn’t see you anymore

A fire was ravaging your old home
You raced to save our toys
Our gifts, more important than your life
You died to give us joy

It gave us so much sorrow
It gives us sorrow still
Guilt consumes my cousins and I
I guess it always will

None of us were there with you
What you were thinking, we’ll never know
The medics say you said a prayer
Before you had to go

The next day was Christmas Eve
But all we felt was pain
And from then on, every holiday since
Has never felt the same

I sigh, and look up at the stars
Even those must die!
Eyes dimming with painful tears
I lower my head to cry

Some stars only lose their light
And die with a quiet sigh
But some send light flying everywhere
Those stars can never die

Now I see what you really are!
Your light can still be seen
It lives in the ones you touched and loved
It shines on… in me

I gaze upon the stars awhile
With all my sorrow gone… I smile

LoveBug,
and this is love that a man should lay down his life for another.

This is so sad, but yet beautiful in it's own right. May you carry happy memories of him through your Holidays!

Sending big HUGz

I'm so sorry for your loss Erica ... what a difficult time this must have been for you and your family.  You've expressed your thoughts and feelings with such tenderness and sorrow ... he must have been a very special man.  Beautifully penned.

Best wishes and hugs to you,
/Kit

What a powerful and beautiful write, Erica...I too am sorry to hear about your loss.  The hope at the ending is perfect though...wonderful work my friend.
