As If God Was Crying Now |

...inspired by several pieces on the Houston Cronicles obituary page. jimmy Solemly we lifted her casket from the last ride she'd ever take, we carried her eighty steps, one for each year of her life, and placed it gently upon the cradle that would lower her into eternity's bed. We gathered together in a loving, mornful embrace as the minister shared his words of grace, saying things we already knew. We stood encircled by masses of flowers, plants, and other things that honored this friend of all, mother of some, grandmother to many. We spent a moment in silent prayer, clasping hands, hugging, sharing shoulders of tears. We said goodbye to this woman we loved for so many years, and a misty rain began to fall, the minister nodded, the tenders slowly lowered her down. The rain increased, and just as she touched the ground, a deluge came, water pouring, thunder roaring all around, and then, as the first handful of dirt touched the coffin's top, it all settled down into warm, gentle tears, as if God was crying now. w. james beard, jr. © December 2000 [This message has been edited by jwesley (edited 12-22-2000).] |

James, this is beautiful, tender, and lovingly crafted. One I would have read for me when the time is right...thank you for sharing... Karilea If I whisper, will you listen?... I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound. KRJ |

There are no words to convey how beautiful this poem is to me, it reminds me of the day we had to say goodbye to my Grandma. As trite as it may sound, this moved me to tears, this is so well written with so much overflowing emotion. This is a beautiful tribute to any loved one's passing and I thank you for sharing this. It makes me smile to think that maybe God was crying for my Grandma or for anyone else who has passed away. This was a bittersweet read. Take care, Melissa The beauty of poetry gives my soul wings to fly free within dreams |

Fantastic ending to a beautiful poem. A very touching piece. If a dream touches us, it exists to us as anything else that touches us. John |

James, this is very, very excellent writing..almost factual such as an informative eulogy or newspaper announcement but at the same time the feelings of sadness, loss and love are there, especially, of course, with the ending.... |

Well all I can do is echo the feelings of all the above as you have truely penned the heart in this one and as Balladeer said...it could and would make a beautiful eulogy. Sad but wonderful write. A life with love will have some thorns, but a life without love will have no roses. author unknown |

This is so beautiful and I wish it had been as peaceful when my Mom of 80 years was lowered into the ground. I think I will use this memory, if I may? Happy holidays to y'all. Love and hugs, ME |

This is so beautiful...I somehow managed to read it through the tears... And I believe that God does cry...in joy for his child coming home to him and in sorrow for their loved ones left behind who miss them so much... Thank you so much for sharing this... I love the time and in between the calm inside me in the space where I can breathe... Sarah McLachlan |
