Gaia's Womb

Resting,
sitting on the beach,
where the waves ebb and flow,
their liquid warmth slowly
pulling sand from beneath me,
gently lowering me
to a place where sand and sea are one,
returning what once was it's own
back to whence it came;
Gaia's womb, calling me home.

Watching seagulls
wheel and turn,
their raucous laughter
boldly taunting all they see,
masters of air,
wavetops too…
wish they were me.

A fiddler crab,
eyeing me,
daring me to chase him down,
just me and him,
a game of tag,
his huge, waving claw,
beckoning,
beckoning…
much as the sea
is calling me.

I feel the tides
within my bones,
the ebb and flow
of life itself,
daily rituals
that come and go,
with every breath,
I know.

Slowly I stand,
looking out to sea,
hearing the waves
calling to me;
but today I refuse
it's symphony,
it's with family
and friends,
I would rather be.

Oh I think the goddess of earth will forgive you this time. Family and friends are what counts now.
