If we knew then What we know now And we had the chance To do it all over Would we be in clover Would we do it again? Were there Missed opportunities Lost perpetuities No continuities Better choices We passed by Would we repeat with élan Or just not 'Do it.' What would be lost? Would a flair make the difference? If we’d married another Not married at all Not heeded the call Had we stayed single Not chosen to mingle Not chosen to meet Would life be as sweet? If we’d married another Married sister or brother Those children we have Would they be the same sexes? Or might we be barren? Or would it all mean A brand new surprise An unknown curse In another disguise Perhaps on reflection If we had the chance To do it all over Would we just be better Than the one we have been More time to the marriage And less to our work More consideration Being less of a jerk Shutting out spouses Can make two people louses And the pain may remain An indelible stain Maybe given more chance We might be up for the dance We might not settle for less And not give into duress And what 'could have been' Might be what became Would it still be the same? And so today do we suffer The fitful dreams Of what didn't happen Were we caught ‘nappin’? How many of us did What our parent told Tried to fit the mold Or exceed the dream Dad or mom believed They never achieved If we had the chance To do it all over What would we do? There are places inside our souls - that have never been touched. There are places inside our hearts - that need to be loved this much. ~Janet Mar |

Wonderfully penned my friend on a question that all of us have asked ourselves I am sure. I myself prefer NOT to look back in regret and wonder because I have made it this far and survived and find myself fortunate in just that so why take the gamble of losing that. Life is too precious to live in the past......the future is where I plan on living the rest of my life. Loved the write and the reflections that it can bring. A life with love will have some thorns, but a life without love will have no roses. author unknown |

Very interesting reflection, Bill...can make one feel crazy...I hope the past holds lessons...and the future learns from them. |

If I only knew then what I know now the mistakes and heartache I could avoid...but would I want too? No thats what has made me the woman I am today...and I cherish every scar Ignore those who would clip your wings...fly ever upward...even if it means scorched wings |

Martie - Paula - I did not mean to make anyone agonize over this - perhaps write a response - or an alternate view - but agony uncalled for Thanks |

you brought two wonderful memories up for me...the lines of our parents wanting better...would I only have had the marriage they did... and of relatives marrying...I DO recall the crush I had on an older and very handsome cousin...I think I was six...LOL... ah well.. Yes, Mr. Yeats, you always cause us to think! Karilea If I whisper, will you listen?... I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound. KRJ |

Karilea- I too had a similar teen age crush on a cousin - I thought she was the sweetest most beautiful creature on God's earth - but she was my Aunt's Daughter - and never knew ~sigh~ Thanks |

Wil, thought provoking write. I wish I had some of the answers to you questions. Be well Keth Religion is for people frightened about going to hell - Spirituality is for people who have been there. Anon. |
