Autumn Ramble Virginia Salter walkin’ along an October afternoon temperature’s soaring yes, it feels like summer’s soon tight-lipped, I go, in self defense of all the cobwebs flying ‘round and white flies’ aerial dance I feel a creepy tickle upon my right arm spot a black beetle. . . swishshsh it away then I look around to see if anyone spies my heart beating rapidly as beetle’s red wings fly what do I learn, much to my dismay, I’m passing by a house with a witch on display cobwebs, flies, witches on their brooms, leaves flying on a breezy afternoon autumn is here, though summer’s stopping by, listen for the whispers and the banshee’s cry shorter grow the days darker grow the nights soon we’ll all be waiting for all saint’s eve night © October 17, 2000 |
