To Mom And Dad When I was young, you took my hand to guide me. You did not follow closely behind me, not did you walk ahead of me. You continued by my side, as we traveled the wandering road of life together. Though there were times, the search became uncertain, blinded and I did not know which way to turn, you waited for me. You were always there. You did not always point out the direction in which to go, for often I watched your words disappear into the air, as I turned around and chose the path that I wanted. So many times I faltered, leaving you bewildered and confused. But you never gave up. Although, at the time I didn't realize that you never turned back around. You did not paint the arrow for me, only outlined the sketches, teaching me to someday draw my own arrow, so I could conquer the road on my own. There were times I struggled through my own uncertainty, my own inexperience. I often sat alone wondering, as my confusion stained my thoughts, as they fell from my eyes. As the seasons changed, my road became even more distant, more turns to take, decisions to make. Your love unveiled the horizons that awaited me, and one day I was able to paint the arrow almost as well as you did. The echoes of your words to me, your teaching, your guidance, strengthened my success, for I no longer have trouble finding my way. It seems like a long time ago, when we first began the road. We laughed away the miles, and erased away the tears. We can never go back to that first step, and even though I no longer need to hold your hand, the love you blossomed inside of me, will shine within my soul forever. I love you. |

Athena, I hope you get this to your parents soon, framed, in a book, somehow. I did something similar for my parents on their 25th anniversary...framed it, and it was on their piano for as long as I can remember... You can never tell them too often that every hope, fear and tear they had for you was felt in their love... Karilea If I whisper, will you listen?... I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound. KRJ |
