I am the Keeper of the Plains, No shuttered room does life extol, Virgin prairie; open sky, Is the body; is the soul. Last fingers of a dying sun, Rattle of Wapiti's bones, Winds blow north; winds blow south, Echoes of a warrior's moans. Tears of eagles, down cheeks coursing, Evermore the prairie stains, In my sorrow; pain's despairing, Cries the Keeper of the Plains. |

Very nice Mike, I enjoyed Maree "If my words could blanket the skies and fill every corner and crevice of this earth, still this wouldn't be enough" "Maree Russo" |

Mike, make sure our Marge sees this or she will kick herself... This is wonderful and I wish I had written it... I really do... Thank you for sharing... Karilea If I whisper, will you listen?... I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound. KRJ |

Mike~ A wonderfully written piece, my friend. Hauntingly rich with truth. Many would not know of the Wapiti pronounced -(WAA-pi-tea). It is believed that it is a Shawnee word meaning "white rump", which would be descriptive of the elk's large rump patch. Yes, I'm sure the warrior's moans would be heard yet, as they certainly suffered. Thank you, Mike. And enjoyable read that I will share with others. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |
