A part of me has often wondered if this may have been the gist of the meaning behind the classic poem. Here's my adaptation: Mary Had a Little LAMB Virginia Salter Mary had a little Lamb His face was quite aglow and everywhere that Mary went the Lamb was sure to go. He followed us to school one day which was against the rules it made the children mild and gay to see the Lamb at school. So the teacher turned Him out though He hung around to play at recess children laughed and danced and then they learned to pray. Then occurred a happenstance a miracle it was their scores became much higher which created quite a buzz! While on the playground, smiles were seen games were lost and won, yet no matter the side one played each member had much fun. Battles did not ensue in brawn no they happened just in brain. Words they said were kind and good when challenging to gain. Oh, certainly girls are girls and truly boys are boys, yet things were quite different when seeking of life’s joys. Towns around, and countries, too, grew curious and drawn and sought to understand just what the Lamb had spawned. My story is a wishful one I’m sure you know by now, but I think that it could happen if we’d let Him show us how. © December 16, 2000 |

VAS~ This is simply delightful ! And I would think that if they would let the prayer of the Lamb back in school - it would just be possible. Thank you for this timely piece. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |
