Mick Jagger is on the radio
telling me he’s pleased to meet me (oo, oo).
I, naive,
believe him.

I’ve finished vacuuming away needles
fallen from a flame retardant fir.
I suspend blue stars in its scentless nest,
fanning Made in China hands.

A lot of Ds are wobbly –-
the tree is a sick joke.
A sick joke born of sweetness;
like most, I guess.

“What’s my name?”
What a dumb question.
(oo, oo)

I spent 18 years in southern CA and getting into the spirit of the holidays can be a real chore at times.  I usually found it though by simply visiting the mountains when the first snow up there began to fall.  But of course the real trick is to try to hold onto the real beauty of Christmas when surrounded with all of the commercialism.  Hard to ignore it and not see it but I sure as heck try my best.  Wonderful write from you and I hope that your holidays find you smiling and full of the company of loved ones.

A life with love will have some thorns, but a life without love will have no roses.

You knew I'd have a story, didn't ya? grin...

First tree, on my own? decorated solely with mardi gras beads, cut into pieces, gold and silver, and they dangled like pearly icicles...and yanno? It was beautiful. Although I did always think that xmas trees looked like pines in drag....but hey...ya gotta admit it...they do have style and finesse...

Merry Christmas to you lovie.

Great poem! I spent 10 years in San Diego, and often came to NH for Christmas because of family. But you know, I have a pic from 1990, standing on the beach, on Christmas,
and I wasn't cold!! There is something to be said for that..

Mark, yeah, getting into the spirit can be tough. I just try not to think about the crassness of it all, and then it works out.

S'en, and a Merry Christmas back atcha. Cute story, by the way.

catalinamoon, wow, interesting coincidence. I'm actually from New Hampshire (Nashua, to be exact). Very interesting coincidence.

Mike (now going to sleep)
