Little Lights

Little lights in radiant white
Strung round the Christmas tree
Transpose the loneliness of night
To soft tranquility

In halo gleam they touch my eyes
With visions yet to come
In warmth they softly mesmerize
With memories they have spun

Each ornament a symbol of
All that we’ve held so dear
Pouring forth the essence of
Our love from year to year

Silver beads in draping links
Embellishing the pine
Glisten bright in merry winks
Encircling my mind

Remembrance of the years gone by
And all their sweet delights
And all the days of you and I
Still sparkle in the lights

Soon the family all will come
To gather round the tree
And give each one a piece of love
In plain humility

A gift of grace, a simple thought
Wrapped neatly with a bow
And bound with threads of fellowship
And lit with Christmas glow

There is no moment in the year
More meaningful to me
Than all the family gathering
Around the Christmas tree

This year one will be missing
In the twinkling of the lights
But love will always fill our home
On this, the night of nights

Elizabeth, this is so beautiful, so soft and memorable, you have written love of home and hearth here and displayed it in an absolutely perfect setting. Magical words, that shine just like the Christmas star,

Absolutely beautiful, Elizabeth.  The flow is impeccable save for line 8 that I think a contraction 'they've' would fix.

This is such a touching, wonderful piece.  It is hard to believe after all you've been through so much beauty shines through.  I don't know why I wonder though, your faith is shining brightly in every twinkling light.

The local Hospice chapter has a tree in the center of town.  Persons donate money to light a light for one or more loved ones that are spending Christmas in another realm this year.  Your poem made me think of it and brought it even more to life for me.  I would guess they might like this poem read next year when they turn the lights on at the opening ceremony.

Lovely, Elizabeth, lovely.  God bless your holiday, through you He has blessed mine!

This is so like you Elizabeth, to take the moment, and weave it into a symbol of ever-after...

and it is as you are, most beautiful in spirit and light...

Each and every one of your responses to this poem moved me to tears.
I loved reading about the hospice tradition, VAS, and there's Marge with a twinkling tree.
How I do cherish my poet family!!
Thank you all so very much

I know that his smile and the love he held in his eyes will be the twinkles in those lights this year my friend.  Such love shown in this piece and the importance of family is very vivid in your words.  Much love to you my friend and as JM said, "More than you know"

Oh, Elizabeth, you write with such eternal optimism.  It just amazes me.  I know what a hole must be in your heart, without Tony there, and yet you write your love and inner strength, and I know that faith comes from God.  I'll continue praying for you and your loved ones.  And God bless you.
