Sharing Christmas Memories - Add a Verse or 10 Each year I like to give my thanks When Christmas time is near, I feel just like a kid again ... It gets me every year! Let's reminisce a little bit About our Christmas past; Think back to all those happy times, That make the memories last. For me, it was the family trips, 'Twas nothing left to chance; We'd pack the car and drive eight hours To visit Gram and Gramps. My Grandpa was a special man, He told a story well; I'd sit for hours upon his lap, Enchanted by his tales. And all the time, while Grandma baked, The family gathered round, As Grandpa filled our hearts and souls With stories he'd expound. And then to bed, we'd scamper off And wake to reindeer hooves ... To clanging bells and hollers, That were coming from the roof. I'd grab my sister's hand and squeal ... "It's Santa!!! He's arrived!!!" She'd squeeze my hand and shush me then, Both motionless ... wide-eyed. The sounds would slowly fade away, We'd hear the reindeer names, As off they flew into the night, As quickly as they came. 'Twas many long years later That I told my mom I'd dreamed ... Of Santa touching down those years, As sis and I would scream. She smiled a loving mother's smile, And said I'd dreamt it not; For Santa really had been there ... 'Twas Grandpa and his props. ***True Story - He was a Wonderful Man*** I'd love to read your stories too, Just add a verse or ten, And build upon the memories, To share with other friends. /Kit McCallum |

My parents were so fun at Christmas time like little kids, ya know they could never wait til Christmas day they'd swear they would...then one of them would say let's do it now.......surprise those two we'll trick them and let them think that they are in trouble, now don't you dare wink! My mom would rush in......say you better get this room clean your Dad is madder than I have ever seen! Brother and I would rush about cleaning trying not to ball cuz we could here Dad's "angry" footsteps up and down the hall then he'd call us out and we just knew we were through astonished were our faces as so happy ~ we see Dad wasn't mad at all..... he had been putting presents under the tree!! true..... ~SEA~ |

My Christmases weren't very good My family was quite poor. At best we got a pair of socks Or shirt and nothing more. Five children were a lot to give A bunch of presents to So Mom and Dad just tried their best To do what they could do. I'd like to say that it was fine But, to a child, it's not Especially, when your friends tell you Of all the gifts they got. So Christmases were nothing much. I only got one box And I could bet, beyond a doubt, It was a shirt or socks. Later, I grew up, of course, Earned good salaries And Christmases found many gifts Beneath the Christmas trees. But I would think of children who Were opening one box Because their parent were like mine and only gave them socks. For fifteen years my girl and I Take money we would spend To buy gifts for ourselves and give To charities instead. I don't need presents for myself. I just do it because I like to lend a helping hand To children that I was....... |

*sigh* you have all added such beautiful words there is no way I could add more through the tears in my eyes right now. We like to find poor families and for the twelve days before Christmas we pixie them but leaving little packages for each member outside their door as we ring the bells and run so they do not know who it is from. We are not rich but have fun baking for many days with exciting ideas to please all tastes. Thank you all for this wonderful read. Much love and Christmas cheer from me to you. Love I leave with you my friend whether it be in your life or of yet the essense of your dreams. http://path2riches.com |

Kit, are you sure you want them okay I'll try to be good. Christmas memories ah how they come to me Amongst six sisters alone we'd never be We were so lucky that we didn't do without Christmas spirit was there all about A house full of women we were eight in all For Nana had answered Mam's help call She's said mama it's all too much for me These girls of mine are driving me crazy Our Daddy had died on Christmas day I know it's sad but then what can you say But Christmas was still a very happy time For children sense when to draw a line Nana had been an actress on the stage We girls were told we'd not be in any cage Womens liberation long before its day You girls are free Mam and Nana would say We had plenty of fun and times were good We were encouraged to be all that we could But we had no Father Christmas come to call We had Mama Christmas with gifts for all So with six sisters all of them buying mad Christmas wasn't ever a time to be sad Mama said Daddy was looking down from above And every Christmas he would send us his love Every year without fail we would be given A gift from Daddy that he'd sent from heaven A thoughtful pressie that Mama gave us each The real message of love to us she'd teach Christmas is still a magic time for me I have to have holly, mistletoe and a tree We sisters get together for a night of fun I say Happy Christmas to each and everyone This is a true story, Merry Christmas Take care Mushy Take back the hope you gave,- I claim Only a memory of the same Robert Browning |
