Listening to every heart

Words in Time

in a book, between loosed leaves
with fountain penned ink, sat a leaf
a bit of paper, from once a sheaf
and I saw, in stunned belief

amid a pressed lilac bouquet
pretty words were wrapped in a spray
a soft light scent from long past days
seemed to harbor sadness among the gay

pretty words caught up in time
words that with promise would then bind
one heart to one, a promise kept
words so sweet, I softly wept

~*~*~*~*~*~

render me unto your heart of sighs
tender me but speak me no lies
come the vision of night's bequest
and know that I do love you best

serenade me yet one more time
with this your heart that is all mine
intrude into my innermost thought
with this love that can't be taught

tighten your hold, grip for dear reason
this love that shall enhance all seasons
this love that shall linger at your fingertips
this love that remains here on my lips

this love that crosses timeless air
and stays as your "forever"…there…

~*~*~*~*~*~

and a date thereon inscribed
written back in eighteen eighty-five
was it a man's hand, or woman's script
the paper trembled slightly in my grip

but the last lines gave me pause to stare
from one to another a display of care
this love that crosses timeless air
and stays as your "forever"…there…

If I whisper, will you listen?...
I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound.

Absolutely beautiful!

The center portion in italics, is that a quote from another poem?  It sounds so familiar.  Either that or it's in the style of a former poet.  My memory is so terribly bad, I don't recall things from long ago.

it's kind of creepy. it's like the author expected you to find it waiting there.
wow. some ideals never change over time. that's good to know.
what an inspiring find. you lucky dog you! thanks for sharing, and i do like the verse you've built around it. extremely clever.

Karilea~
I think we've both found great treasures left
from the heart of others.
This is just lovely.
Tenderly touching it is.

Kari love, this is utterly breathtaking, it truly is. Outstanding, excellant, exquisite and beautiful. I love this one, I'm keeping this one and it will never gather dust on any shelf because it will be read and re read until time has run its race.
Take care

A quick explanation: this is pure fiction. I imagined how I might write 100 some years ago...and the romantic in me would have tucked some papers in a book, as I enjoy "drying flowers" and we have this lovely lilac bush in the neighbors yard that I pinch from every spring...and what if, I thought, someone years and years away were to find my thoughts lying there...what would they read, what would they see...would it make them feel?

Virginia, I guess this then answers your question...the words of course sound "similar" but no, those were not picked up from anywhere by in my own rambling mind...thank you...

Thank you 'Deer...I'm keeping it too...

Ethan, exactly what I was going for...I do believe in "other planes" and what if I had a "sister" out there, paralleling me through her universe...spooky, yes...so very glad you liked it!...

Marge, the treasures I have found are many...but many of them are taking physical form...y'know? [my little spam-ham..]

Marsha you little flag-waver you...may you wave on forever!  Hugs, you!
