The Heart Knows

Sometimes the way splatters
because there is a window in front of me
gauging distance   demanding
little fingernails scrapping at the meaning
and the glass oh it is so clever because
I can see through it
but it keeps out the wind
and those little thoughts that fly by
on winged hope just burst
until they are the gone

I was saying that the heart knows the way
but sometimes the map is hard to read
and to keep going I have to stop
to breathe
but first open up the window
and let in the air
for on the ride of it is a memory
that fragrance from recall squeezes
from out of a tree
and then a sound comes vibrating toward me
as if it knows this minute is its only chance
to gather dreams like children
and swing them around the rosy

I feel a child turn to me
so quickly that my sigh fails
and I touch the wisp of something pure
and hear her voice so sweet
reminding me that life continues
and love is forever

Open the door now she says
for if you just take one step beyond comfort
into the quagmire of the swamp perhaps
or down the rock strewn embankment
even into the dark cave that only holds whispers
you just might find what you are looking for
in the nights melting across the sky
in color that screams
pull down the visor
that shades you from knowing
then listen to your heart

Hi Martie ....

These words sound like they come from an angel ... I could juz close my eyes and hear them being whispered into ears ...
How beautiful ...

Oh, Martie, Martie, Martie - this poem cuts me to the bone.  Oh, little Michelle, I wish I could have known you.

The last two stanzas are the ones that move me most.  Oh, I have poet envy, my dear!  I thank God for the gift He gave me, and I know I shouldn't envy, but I hope He helps me gain a greater gift in the future, so I can express my thoughts more fully, as you do.

You... you... you put my own feelings into words.  Bless your heart.

Your friend, Rosemary

How come you can write about hearts and souls and roses and stuff without sounding cliche - it's not fair ..hummphh..

actually martie i guess it's just one more indication of what a really excellent poet you are.

thanks for this

I breathe in the beauty of phrases from your heart ...

Well my friend, so ends my session for now once again and not only do I get to take your words of beauty with me but I get to take the wisdom of you with me.  I literally have been here reading this one over and over for the last 5 or 10 minutes and I am in awe even being used to your poetic beauty, this one really caught me off guard as to how well you have penned this.  This my friend is definitely one of your best and that as we ALL KNOW (yes, including you) is not an easy task at all.  Thank you so much my friend for this and for YOU.  LOVE AND SMOOCHES from this cowboy to your tender lips and heart.  Yeah, my friend, I love ya so just accept it.

This one captured me completely... and like Mark, I found myself reading it over and over as an angel danced just beyond the reach of my peripheral vision. Stunning!
