A Poet’s Vision

I came here a novice in the art of the pen
I read in awe as I browsed your creations
Addiction to the blue pages quickly set in
As your poetry gave to me many sensations

I learned that a poet sees different than the rest
As I read from one style and then on to the next
I soon learned that Passions is simply the best
As I read the poems of many in wonderous text

From what I have learned from every one of you
I will forever hold dearly each day as I awake
I have learned to see as I poet in these pages of blue
My promise to you is this gift I will never forsake

Some free-verse below will show you how I now see
As your pennings have given me a much better sight
Thanks to you all for the wonderments of your poetry
I will forever dream in color as I rest my eyes at night

~~~*~~~
When others see a pine cut for the holidays
A poet sees...
Burst of aromatic fingers tickling the air with their touch
When others see snow on the ground
A poet sees...
Infinity’s portion of ice crystals embraced in huddling masses
When others see a nativity scene
A poet sees...
Porcelain figurines gracing the simplicity of a worn down cresche
When others see an ornament on a tree
A poet sees...
Adorned orbs of glass glistening under the kisses of a hundred lights
When others see an heirloom treetop
A poet sees...
Decades of photographs encased in the memories of many cherished times
When others see an icycle
A poet sees...
Spears of frozen tears gracing us from the saddened reaches of the heavens
When others simply fall in love
A poet begins…
Waltzing across the billows of the heaven’s amongst the symphony of the stars leading to the gateways of the heart entwined in the braidings of rainbows and butterfly wings resting on the petals of the rose kissing the morning dew.
Mark Bohannan
*Thank you all for the wonderful works you share with us here and even more thanks for the wonderful replies and friendships that I have
been blessed with because of your beautiful hearts.  May the poet in all
of you forever find your pen full of ink and your muse(s) burning the midnight oil.
Happy Holidays from this most blessed cowboy!!!  May the season bring you the love and happiness that you have all given me and much much more.
A life with love will have some thorns, but a life without love will have no roses.
Well its real hard to think of you as a novice...at anything...but poetry most of all
and as you have learned from fellow poets here ... we have learned from you as well ...
I thank you for the lessons in imagery ...your gift of painting a scene with your pen has made me look for the beauty in my own words ...your examples of poetic vision prove my point...
Imagery overload baby...   and I love it ...
as for the gifts of this friendship ... you already know how treasured that is ...
and it means more everyday ... and I thank you for that--you know...yeah, you know...
And YES (before you ask )...this does help with my scroogepants attitude   ...
why it almost feels like a "groovy" baby LOL
love ya
Mark my friend, I'm grateful to you for so many reasons, too many to list, or if I did I'd be here all night. (I will be anyway but I'm supposed to be working through it not leaving replies.) I thank you for the gift of you wonderful fresh and beautiful images you gift us with. I thank you for the delight the sight of one of your poems brings to me, and I can add without fear of contradiction to all the MBOOPAS, and the residents of Passions, her family. I thank you for your delightful replies, your gentle teasing, your lighthearted flirting. The way you make even the greyest day burst into colour, the ease you have of lifting my teams spirits. The sensual sighs you deliver that make Daphnie and Sue melt, the smiles and the very real love we all have for you. So there is no need to thank us, we most truly thank you. For all that and much much more. A very merry Christmas to you, and may you enjoy it all.
Love and hugs
You are simply amazing, my friend.  Leave it to you to come up with the most breathtaking images for something as 'simple' as falling in love!
Very thoughtful tribute to the wonderful and talented poets here on the 'blue pages.'  Love it!!
Ahhhh Mark ... smiling, smiling, smiling. Such insightful vision you've penned here so beautifully. Indeed, we seem to see from an entirely different vantage. There is no black or white ... only beautiful hues amidst the rainbowed prism of life.  Happy Holidays to you my friend (and that challenge is toooooo tough, lol, I haven't come up with anything ... "yet")!
Mark
I don't recall you ever being a novice, either in poetry or in the art of communication or the grace of expression or the warmth of friendship. It is I who have learned so much from you. I could never create an icicle or an ornament the way you do. So you are the one to be thanked , for your generous comments to all the poets, the love you have shown an the compassion, and for your beautiful poetry.
Thank you, dear cowboy
For as many hearts as show you a response, there are hundreds more who have only read your splendid poetry...and could not answer...
in each of them
you have left in those hearts
wisdom
welcome
winsome
wind
light
love
lift
life
and many other things...
you have done more than most
smote more than some
left them wanting
for more to come
and Passions shall always know
a cowboy rode in
and stole the show...
Dear Mark,
    What beautiful visions you have, that you see with your heart, not just your eyes.  A poet sees beyond the obvious, and embraces the epitome of the soul.  You have done that many times over in this poem.  Just beautiful!
SEA-What is amazing my sweet friend is that you actually ARE REAL!!!!  Now that is a poet's dream come true.  Thank you sweetie.
JM-My dear sweetness defined, you know that it is really nothing at all like a "groovy" but thank you for trying to convince the people in here anyway!!! Yes, my friend, I do know the heartfelt beauty of our friendship and nothing could ever compare to that gift I have received since coming here.  Thank you my dear and big hugs and kisses to those "Scroogepants" of yours.  Well, that didn't sound very gentlemanly did it?  OPPPSSSSSSssssss, oh well, you know what I mean.
Bill-Been watching the Batman and Robin movies again huh?  Thank you kind sir.
Startime-Thank you my sweet friend for not only the hugs and love you always leave but for the beautiful poetry you share with us as well.  I too enjoy your works and you are among the best, don't doubt that.
Marsha-My dearest president and friend, you have shown more love within these walls than any one person could ever hope to find and I thank you for that with all my heart.  It is so nice to see someone really get into poetry and replying from the heart.  You find the beauty in all that reaches your eyes and that in itself is a gift from God.  Don't you worry about being "Mushy" at all, because that is one of the things that make you so unique and special here.  Thank you my friend for all that you do and share.  I could never begin to touch what you and the MBOOPA's have given me so please hug them all for me.  Oh yes, you may kiss Daphnie and Sue for me too.  I am sure that they won't mind.
Balladeer-Well sir, if I have left the novice status behind, you most definitely are one of the reasons why.  Your poetry, especially your ballads have shown me more and taught me more than you could ever know.  Thank you for that my friend.
Kethry-Thank you my friend and I will wait with much "FEAR" (LOL) "anticipation" for your tribute.  Now this one should be quite interesting.  Hugs!!
LngJhnAg-My friend, I do believe that you better stick to the poetry and lovin that wonderful Lorelei of yours.  Why embarrass yourself with bad impressions when there is no need.  Besides you caught one of the prettiest and most loving fillies around didn't you?  Thank you kind sir.  It is always a pleasure to read your "TENDER" comments spoken from that poet's heart of yours.  (Maybe Santa will bring you a kitty for Christmas as long as this year you don't refuse to get off his lap again)
Martie-My lovely friend.  You too have not only been one of the teachers for me, but you have shown me that is more than fine to reach out in friendship honestly and be accepted for the rambunkcious cowboy that I am and I thank you for that. Hugs and BIG SMOOCHES back to ya.  MMMMMMMMmmmmm....now that would most certainly bring up some imagery wouldn't it?  Thank you for YOU!!!!
snowpants-My dear friend, there is NOTHING simple about falling in love as I am sure you know.  Thank you for the dedication and the wonderful friendship you always show with you open heart.  It means much.  Now can you say....." GO CARDINALS"??????  Yeah, thats the way.  Pound them Mets. LOL  Hugs to you my friend of the diamond.
Kit-Why my friend, I know that once the holiday shopping settles down for you and all the preparing for that day finds a little room for the BRILLIANT POETIC mind of yours to breathe, you will come up with the perfect answer the challenge.  Hugs and much thanks to you for always being there with the biggest of smiles and making so many of my days here so fun.
Sandra-It is I who am honored from wonderful poets such as yourself.  You have always given of your heart in your replies and I am grateful to you for that.  Thank you my sweet friend.
Liz-If I have taught you anything then I hope you fix it fast.LOL  You are the supreme of the supreme my friend and the lessons in imagery in my poems came from you almost 90%.  I remember you writing of a bridge in the wild and that was when I knew that YOU were to be the first poet to be added to my library.  Not just a single poem, but ALL of yours.  Thank you just doesn't seem like enough for you but that is all that I can offer other than my friendship and dedication.  Hugs and love my friend.
Lady Lightning-Thank you my dear friend and let's hope that window pane doesn't fog over this winter.  You have only been here a short time but already you have reached the hearts of many in your sweet ways.
Karilea-I don't know that I have stolen the show my friend, but thank you none the less for that beautiful reply.  You reach more hearts than you know in so many ways and I think that is one of the reasons that so many look for that "SUNSHINE" in their day.  Thank you much.
Elise-Thank you for those wonderful words and I see with my heart because that is how I was taught in here.  Before coming to Passions, I don't know that I truely saw at all.
Rosebud1229-My friend, for you to add this to your library is the greatest honor I could hope for.  Thank you so much for you and for sharing so many beautiful pieces with us.
Lisa-Thank you my sweet sister and I am glad that you can see the sincere feelings behind this and I KNOW that you will find the same peace and love here as I have.  Hugs and love you baby.
Paula-Thank you much and yes a poet does.  You have proven that many times.
Charisma-Thank you my sweet friend.  I don't think that there is enough time in the day to fill the need for poetry but we sure give it a try don't we? Hugs to you my friend.
Deb-Now if I owe anyone here anything at all besides my undaunted friendship and praise, it is you.  You gave to me the gift of not only friendship but you re-opened my eyes to the one thing that matters most in life and that is the renewed faith in God and for that I will eternally be grateful.  It is no wonder that your light shines so brightly.  Hugs to you my friend for ALL you share and give.
kaile-Your smile is so welcome and there is no need to see as I do because you see with your own wonderful poetic vision and that is what makes your writing so wonderful.  Thank you dearly.
I never ever considered you a novice ...at your first arrival I could tell you were a talented poet and deserved recognition as such...the fact that you have grown is a wonderful tribute to yourself and a thanks from me to be able to see the growth and maturity set in....you've done one heck of a job cowboy....If Passions has helped you along the way that's a wonderful tribute to Passions because Passions is a class act all the way through and that's the reason for coming back here over and over....I certainly salute you and wish you continued inspiration from the hearts of Passions.
In poetry, the term voice has been used to describe a sense of unique presence on the page, an unmistakable something that becomes the mark of a writer, a way of saying things that is a writer's own. When we listen to a person speaking, we hear a particular music unlike any other. The stamp of someone's voice is as individual as a fingerprint, if we know someone well, we instantly recognize the tone, pitch, resonance of that voice whenever we encounter it.
Well my friend I have become familiar with your poetic voice and you have cultivated a style and pageside manner that is warm, friendly and welcomed by all. I personally am very proud of you and your accomplishments. Accomplishments from the heart and soul are always high on a poet's list and yours are wonderful.
These free verse descriptions that you have written here of a poet's view of the ordinary things in life allow me to rest my case while appreciating your poetic voice...your mark.. Mark.....take care......ethome
Mark...
As I sit back and passionately read
The inspiration, sorrow, joy or bittersweet
Through each verse from which you tenderly pen
You dear poet have become a treasured friend...
Your kindness is only shadowed
By the love within your heart
That is portrayed in the poetry
You share with us each nite...
Muaaaaaaaaaaah on your cheeks sweetie
Mark my friend the MBOOPAS have written this as a thank you, and said since you have given them so much, they'd like to say thank you too.
The Land Over The Rainbow
When we first came to this land
You were the first to lend a hand
Helped us open our eyes and to see
The light and colour, loves' beauty
You lifted the blindfold off our eyes
And introduced us to heavenly sighs
When we first came to this town
You were there when we felt down
If we looked deep within our hearts
We all know beauty won't now depart
Lifted the curtain to show the play
Revealing the beauty in every day
When we first came to this street
You were the first to offer us a treat
Showed us that truth can be found
If we stopped and looked around
You lifted the lid and we came in
Showing us that joy was not a sin
When we first came to meet you
You were the first to show us true
Revealing a wonderful world of light
Showed us love and beauty's delight
You lifted us out of our dark days
Mark to you our glasses we raise
When we first came to this land
We weren't a very united band
We have learnt so much from you
Working together means we CAN do
You lifted our chains to set us free
Mark your poetry was freedoms key
When we first walked in your sun
We realised that you were the one
You exposed our eyes and our ears
Sent to oblivion our deepest fears
Gave us a gift so rare and true
MBOOPAS say Mark may God bless you
Thank you
Take care
Mark my friend, I'm sorry they forgot, (actually it was me who forgot) to tell you that they all think this is utterly divine. Among your best they say. Absolutely fabulous.   Sorry, I'm a little weary, too many hours here and not enough asleep.
take care
you were a novice?!?!
my socks lie across the room, for you have blown them off!!
i've said it before, but i'm not usually a fan of free verse. but that was truly spectacular.i was touched, and i can't think of a better way to put it...
that was heart and soul in those lines and i'm glad you shared them with us (by posting, AND by dedicating them to us)
if you were a novice, then MY-oh-MY how you have grown.< !signature-->
You don't hear much about guys who take their shot and miss... they have crappy jobs on graveyard shifts, trying to figure out how they came up short.
Coco-Thank you my dear friend for those lovely words and you too are a most treasured friend in my heart as well.  Now as for the kiss on the cheek, NOTHING could have been sweeter than that. One right back at ya.
Parker-Believe me when I say that whatever talent you see comes from me studying poems and poets till my eyes hurt.  I have always loved poetry but never really started writing until I found this wonderful home and poets like you make coming home a warm and caring part of my life.  Thank you much my friend, but the hat has got to stay.
Marsha and the MBOOPA's-Thank you all so much and the love and sentiment you share I hold close to my heart dearly and send it back to you all three times over.  You have made these past few months of mine so enjoyable that I could never find a match for it on the scale of happy.
Gale-For sure that is one happy reply from you and I thank you dearly.  As for hat sizes, well, cowboys don't judge that as each one is special in it's own right.  A duel, I think not as long as that other cowboy holds the power of sonnets in his holster.    Thank you sweetie.
Ethan-Thank you my friend and I am sorry about those socks but it was time to change them anyway wasn't it?   Yes, I have grown and hope to grow some more.  You have helped in that area with me as well and I thank you for that as well.
vandana-Thank you much and supporting you in your poetry is easy as you have much to shine in.  I will also continue to read your works as well.
