She did watch, The clouds run across the sky, Off they flew, Leaving blue, And she to desire to fly; She did watch. Slowly fall, The sinking sun now follows, Warm and bright, The sunlight, Cast long then longer shadows, Stretching tall. Upon the ridge far away, Darkness sat, Till at last fire did play As he settled for the night, Darkness sat, But for his campfire light. She did watch, As it burned down at night, Saw the smoke, When day broke, He was gone before light; She did watch. She then turned, Walking into a new day, Flowers grew And she knew, That he’d be long gone away, Till returned. Song of Sal-li She was a pale girl, a frail girl, A slave girl that was set free, A homely girl, a lonely girl, Beautiful the soul of Sal-li. Gloom |
