This poem is about a (sort-of) revolution to a love that begun over a year ago. It never really ended, but... well, I sleep once more.

I awake in the night
Heart pounding, hands shaking, mind reeling
Shadows dance upon my walls once again

Shadows of the past
Do a waltz around my room
Screaming at me, bringing me from my sleep

“Remember me? I was your friend
Until you wanted to become much more
You frightened me, and now I’m gone”

I remember… now he’s just a shadow

“Remember me? We grew up together
Best of friends, we were!
But I took a different path
You didn’t stop me”

I know… and now
She is nothing but illusion

“Remember us? We were great together
But we wrecked on their “third wheel”, didn’t we?”

They waltz together on my wall, together once more in my nightmares

I pray to God to stop the pain
To make these shadows vanish

But they only dance faster
They begin to spin

Round
            and
                     round
          they
go

Faster
             And
Faster
             And
Faster

With each beat of my heart, I hear their screams

“remember me?”
“remember me?”
“you see what you’ve done?"
YOU CAN'T FORGET!

My head spins, my sight fades
And suddenly, they freeze

The shadows stop, and step aside
And then I see him…

He is no dark shadow
No vague outline of what once was
He is real…

His golden hair shines, lighting the room
His icy blue eyes pierce my soul
And his voice penetrates the darkness

“Remember me? The mad chases
The wistful looks, the bad poetry?
The thoughts that haunted you at night?

Well, I remember you.
Believe it or not, I remember you
Here I am for one last glimpse”

I approach, not believing

I look into those eyes
So beautifully blue…

I see something in them
Something I’ve never seen in the eyes of any other
I still can’t name it

All I know is that, when he vanished
He took the shadows with him

And I sleep once more

Great piece of writing here, Erica! You can almost hear the torment of the thoughts. Definetly a great piece, and I loved that ending, great way to end it.

Thank you both for your wonderful replies. You are great writers and your opinion means a lot to me. I'm going to "cheat" and give this piece a little *bump*!

This is extremely powerful! I could imagine the whole thing happening. Good work.
