But those of us who care enough will get back up and then
We'll do our best to put our broken pieces back again.
It may take years - takes work and things don't always go as planned
But it gets so much easier when someone lends a hand
(From Balladeer’s ‘The Vase’)

*****

Urgently hurt
I remember floating, I’d lost
my wings, but they were only
gossamer anyway. There was nothing
of substance in that shuffle
I mistook for flight. It all became
apparent, on the night I slept
out in the garden, under stars
and wailing leaves. Oh, I was in
a room, under covers and warded
by the dark safety of a crippled
lightbulb, but I felt the
grass, and the subtlety of air about
my face. I think the moon reflected
from my mouth as it opened and I
bled a groan.

I held my brokeness in two hands, lying
in the earth, my arms clutched around myself,
and my senses lost. Shivering I awoke, alone.
Out of reach of comfort.

I awoke, I stood and in the corner
of the room I touched the leaves, tangled
in my hair. A dream and the truth are one
and the same.

Pain rises, like heat, like shadows in the distance. I
swallow things carefully – rays of sun,
milk, things that keep me walking, voices
and words. Huddled though, I stave cries away, only
to have them arch out of me, in unguarded moments.

I’m quite defenceless inside, unable to speak plainly, or
shudder out this tragedy. How the spread of futility
has washed over, snared, and I think how I could
drown. Yes, tears, they don’t come often. They ache out
in drips,

tiny things and stop, drying on my cheeks.

I, curled down, solitaired,
unwound as I heard your gentle intrusion.
You took my hand,
from far beyond, and spoke the things I never
could. You’ve been my voice, and held me
as a child. This bruised creature, grounded,
wanders through trees

as pain rises

yet you’re there,
my protection, garlanded.

Severn, little K...you don't mind if I put this in my library, to see where your inspiration comes from and to marvel at your growth?

Ah Ha!  Thanks!

Kamla, I have read this three times, one aloud, just to hear the beauty of the words. I don't know what to say..it is so powerful and yet so fragile and emotional. This is what is truly known as a poem to touch the heart and, if I had even the tiniest part in its creations, I am blessed. Thank you, my wonderful friend.....

Kit - Thankyou for reading...it was a hard write, hard to put together into thought and feeling...and I appreciate your words

Nan - LOL...is it both - depending on where you stand maybe? Thanks hon...

LL - I find that rereads are one of the biggest compliments a poet can receive...thankyou for yours...

Karen - no need to make me feel it. You understand it dear. Thanks for your giant hug - I felt that..

Walty - thankye...ripped indeed - that pretty much says it...

Kari - mind? MIND? I'm honoured...and you knew I would be right? Thankyou...muchly.

JM - you are right, dear, about those new wings. They're half formed...but they're a-coming...thank you, for your very kind appreciation.

'Deer - I feel quite humbled. I'm just glad I found 'The Vase' with that verse in it to steal lol...no thanks necessary...goodness! HUGS...thankYOU.

Martie - you know what words like that mean...especially when they come from one of my favourite writers....thankyou.

P - Well my friend. This is, as you know, for you. I mean it (Dad-type person heh). Without you...this time would've been worse. Thankyou - from the depths. (L)(K)bat back..

Mmy - Hugs you. You also - without you ... yup, might not have made it lol. Your support is one of my foundations. You can have a bat too...

Kamla,
I read this several times and I'm still trying to absorb its impact. So real, so heartachingly real and so desperately lovely

Good Lord woman, the pain in this piece makes me want to get my butt on a plane and come hug you personally ... electronic hugs just don't seem to cut it here ...

But as much as I'd love to visit NZ, I'm flat broke and I have the feeling Michael wouldn't let me go without taking him anyway, and what fun would that be...?  hehehe

You know that I love your verse, Kamla, but here, I felt it -- and it was not a good feeling.

I'm sorry that you had inspiration of this kind ... but I am ecstatic that you had Philip to lend you his hanky.

Best wishes,

--Linda

Sven...How I know that feeling...I've been so poetically dry lately...but I know that isn't what you meant - thanks..

Kethry - I really appreciate your comment...hugs...desperately lovely - an unusual choice of words, and ones that ring true for me. Thankyou...

Linda - You have no idea how your words touched me...nearly in tears lol. (Pathetic woman etc...) Philip has nice hankies btw - should you ever need them (but I doubt it, with Michael around ~grin~) They're monogrammed...HAHA. Thanks hon, thanks much.

James - glad to have touched you...and thankyou for your appreciation.

When things happen that cause us to step outside of ourselves and look around-- that can be quite frightening, and it is always a comfort to have a soft place to lie down and rest knowing there is someone helping to watch over you. I will lend you my eyes.
