One foot on the brink of emptiness We stand poised, holding onto our fears Gazing around in sad confusion Always living on the edge of tears A slight turn of the head here and there Shows us nothing on horizon’s view Resisting life’s fulfillment and joy Holding tight to the past’s residue The world may still move on around us But we stand here with our guarded heart Hoping for some small semblance of The contented past that fell apart Step forward and we may find nothing Move forward and the unknown appears So here we are, our hearts rejected Ever living on the edge of tears. |

After a serious hurt that often happens ...you end up with a gaurded heart and trust gets a boot out the door and suspiciousness comes right on in...the poem here is excellent it's so full of truth but done so well that the reader isn't going to forget the content and the purpose. really enjoyed it for sure......ethome..... |

Wonderful expression Sharon ... you've captured deep feelings so well in this poem. Indeed we become guarded and hesitant clinging to the past, fearful of what may or may not be in the future, beautifully written. Best wishes, /Kit |

The world may still move on around us But we stand here with our guarded heart Hoping for some small semblance of The contented past that fell apart Step forward and we may find nothing Move forward and the unknown appears So here we are, our hearts rejected Ever living on the edge of tears. ================ Sharon this is a very emotional piece... its appeal and beauty is in its melancoly, and its haunted heart emote. perfect rhyme and cadence ... and the repetition of the title line adds to its poetic grace.(very cool title btw) very well written ...and related too wel. jm |

The past is just that - past - and we rarely can return to it - as you say - Life goes on... For each door closed to us, however, another opens... That's what I hear, anyway.. Nice work here, PdV.. |

The edge is a place that holds so many possibilities PD. Sometimes it is so hard to keep a balance from teetering over the edge. Beautiful, and so well done. *s* On the wings of words our spirits fly, and our souls are free. |

"Step forward and we may find nothing Move forward and the unknown appears So here we are, our hearts rejected Ever living on the edge of tears." Sharon, I can really relate to this piece. You describe the feelings so well, and so beautifully. Another gem from you, my friend. This one goes in my library! Living on the edge of tears... Wow, what a predicament to be in. Hey, we can't go back in life... there is only going forward, but we can go forward standing still or we can go forward falling. What about falling forward? Thats it! If you gotta fall... Fall Forward. Just an idea. Luv, Bob <>< |

So true, PdV. Well expressed thoughts. Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

well done! I have been there, and am visiting once again, to that edge. I guess it's kinda like standing in the check-out line and seeing something that hits just right, enough to push you over the edge...and you bust out crying...you felt it welling up, but prayed that you could wait till you get into the car, tried to think of something else to stall it...yes, I'm there. |

Thank you all for you kind words. The title has lived in my heart for 10 years. Last night, the poem wrote itself around the title. Thank YOU all for inspiring me for the last 18 months. I will never forget all that you've given me. |

What a great line! Wish I had thought of it! Wow... Karilea If I whisper, will you listen?... I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound. KRJ |

A powerful poem P.D. I think its the thrill of the risk of it not working out that makes it so worthwhile when it does, the joys return 10 fold. I enjoyed reading this. Thank you. Regards, Olias. |

This is a moving piece about what I can most relate to. Wanting to move, but afraid. It is so expressive. "When red-haired girls scamper like roses over the rain-green grass, and the sun drips honey."" Laurie Lee Kathleen |
