My Vain Intruder Whose breath so precious can speak of dying. When drowning overwhelmed me, I rose -- a slumbering captain -- to sail the strand's length. Soon I found the light nestled shore, my feet etching evident life in white sand. Like a kite minus wind, dropping as a wounded fowl -- words of failing crash in tired flight. My spirit vilely chased by darkness has risen from the cold of a stone road -- its pebbles a marker of a battle once raging. Death -- my vain intruder -- you've pried many nights at my door, yet still I live. The swell of lost youth catches my breath, as I know this day has been salted away for the arrival of her beauty. Days past, my language unprepared to greet her -- my soul untamed. Now, I marvel at her presence -- each day's prayers beginning with the light of her candle, and resting with the kiss of her eyes in my soul. © Robert Joseph ~enb~ [This message has been edited by Robert Joseph (edited 11-18-2000).] |

this piece is fantastic, Robert!!! I love this the most: Like a kite minus wind, dropping as a wounded fowl -- words of failing crash in tired flight. And any piece that makes me think of a lighthouse and its light from the shore gets my vote, as well. Loved this poem! May I copy and place in my favorites of others? |

"beginning with the light of her candle, and resting with the kiss of her eyes in my soul" If that's not a poet's work then I shall have to quit, because I don't understand...very dark and beautiful this work...beauty on the dark side is there to be absorbed..very good! |

Sigh - what can I say Robert? Another one wonderfully done... 'Days past, my language unprepared to greet her -- my soul untamed. Now, I marvel at her presence -- each day's prayers beginning with the light of her candle, and resting with the kiss of her eyes in my soul.' Remember how we were talking about publishing...?????? ![]() |
