Maybe I need a change of scenery; Perhaps it’s just this sheet of paper. It could very well be The lines I’ve vowed To stay within; It never crossed my mind That my world could be the cause Of this impasse. Baby, when you’re around, The words could never cease to flow. But I’ve restricted myself By allowing inspiration To illustrate itself Only within the requirements I’ve set. I’m deathly afraid Of using all of the pretty stationery. So, instead, I find it years later, Yellowed, at the bottom of a box In the back of my closet, Where I’ve also hidden My most precious limitations. This heart needs release; I could take no more boundaries. I’m standing alone, Face to the sky, Arms outstretched, In the downpour of this affirmed negativity. The jukebox plays every song of desperation It can possibly find; I keep feeding it quarters. How can I complain When I’ve been the one Giving continuity to this obstruction? Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these: 'it might have been.' -John Greenleaf Whittier |

Go ahead, erase your lines of limitation! Great poem. Abra "So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains And we never even know we have the key." -Already Gone, The Eagles |

Dark Angel: yes, it is, but sometimes, to get on with life, we must. Glad you liked! passing shadows: thanks for reading and assuring me I'm not the only one who sees things this way! Abra: I think I just might! Thanks! Sunshine: yes, and that's exactly what came over me last night when I wrote this. I even wrote on a different type of paper than I normally write on. it was quite an experience for someone who is such a slave to tradition! glad you could get something out of it!! sp Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these: 'it might have been.' -John Greenleaf Whittier |

Sometimes there just can't be a winner in it all as it says in your title. You still got to play the game but you also have to know when to accept that victory will come another day and then go out and find where the next game will begin. Wonderful verse worth much contemplation. |

SnowPants~ This is a simply marvelous write ! 'I’m deathly afraid Of using all of the pretty stationery. So, instead, I find it years later, Yellowed, at the bottom of a box In the back of my closet, Where I’ve also hidden My most precious limitations.' Sometimes ya' just gotta color outside the lines. What a wonderful ponder ! I like it. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |
