May I have this Dance |

May I have this Dance “May I have this dance?” I asked. My heart I hoped In every word She sat demure midst friends Wet rings and glasses Making orbits on the table “May I have this dance?” I asked. My heart flopping With each syllable I uttered Her look I prayed Told of the desire to escape From the cheap wine Inane humor Friends dying of ennui “May I have this dance?” I asked. I finally got the words out Couldn’t tell if I mumbled Stumbled, or was loud enough To be heard But I smiled as she looked up And her eyes radiated light She took me in I took her up And our feet Never touched The floor There are places inside our souls - that have never been touched. There are places inside our hearts - that need to be loved this much. ~Janet Mar |

yes, please, thank you... Karilea If I whisper, will you listen?... I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound. KRJ |

I'll save the last dance for you! Hope you don't mind if it's a waltz. |

Nan - Thought of all the times when - mustering up the courage was tougher than not stepping on her feet - Thanks Butterflies - I do not lack the self-confidence today that was so difficult then - and you should know dancing with all the wonderful poetesses here would be a dream come true - Thank you Karilea- I checked my card - you're on it for sure Thank you inot2b - I hate to tell you - but the waltz and the polka can throw my feet into a tizzy sometimes - I'm better by far with the latin But you're on my card Thank you Martie- slow, slow, quick, quick, slow - that's all you need to know - we'll be the hit of the dance floor - Thanks |

Part of the problem that magnifies the nervousness is the fear of rejection in front of others...especially when you're really sweet on the honey...this is a great poem!!..bet there isn't a guy out there that can't relate to it.....when you ask and you are successful then just like you wrote ...your feet don't even seem to touch the floor......I really enjoyed this Wilfred! |

WY~ I LOVE THIS!!!! Really, this is perfect......I have a beautiful memory of meeting a gorgeous man by me being the one to ask him to dance.......I thought for sure he'd say no, but he almost jumped at me,(which was cool). This poem took me to that night, thank you for taking me to that fun memory! -SEA |

Wil, thank you for the ask to dance I'm always in for light romance around my waist I feel your hand as we're moving to the band Thank you sir for asking me the look in your eyes I can plainly see in rhythm of this dalliance could become a fine romance so thank you sir for the chance and shyly, aksing me to dance. Wil this response is not to take away from your poem which was fabulous. Grrrreeeeaaat write on Kethry Why do yesterdays remain and todays pass by ...unnoticed? Rex E. Alford |

ethome- Thank you - believe me when I say I remember this gawky ichabod-like character getting many rejections (6'2" 150 lb through HS) Sven- Thank you - I truly surprise mysellf at times- - you've not seen the unposted SEA- I remember that night- I'd jump again ~G~ (seriously- Thank you so much I needed to read your response today for the smile it brought.) Paula - places on the card still open - I'm sure we'll look good on the floor - - if you promise to not wear that black leather motorcycle jacket ~G~ Kethry- You must know I'm a sucker for poetic responses - I truly love them - and this one too ~G~ Interloper- It's funny - some women command the room with such imperial presense - we can hesitate even when our confidence is high - I agree - thanks |
