Four young people died the other night
What a crime what a shame
It’s just not right

So much of life will never be seen
By those four
Who were just eighteen

Their one and only crime
Being in the wrong place
At the wrong time

Hitch hiking, Looking for a ride
They found one
Thats why they died

The young man behind the wheel
If only they knew
Their lives he’d steal

For tonight he’d been drinking
Way too much to drive
If only they were thinking

Maybe they’d still be alive

Yep, I know where you're coming from Dakota, wrote about the memory of a drunk a few days ago myself... no excuse's in my book.  I think they get away with much of it because we're all susceptable (and judges, lawyers know they are also prime to be "drunks drives") so let it go by... a shame though, when it causes so much pain and suffering to so many...needlessly.

Denise~ yes it is very sad to think that mere children are dying ... and for what?  So that someone can show he is a man? or Perhaps just because no one around him had the guts to say... GIVE ME YOUR KEYS!
Thank you for writing...

jwesley~ maybe it is time the judges and the lawyers learn our children are to high a price to pay!! I heard about this today at work and it tore me up to think that so many died for nothing... Thanks for writing.

Amy~ I agree we here about it too too much... and it is a crying shame it still goes on...  Thank you for your thoughts..

Dakota,
I write about drinking and such... but honestly I haven't driven since june of 86. I was hit pretty bad by a drunk. I would've bumped you yesterday but I had just posted "the bet" didn't seem the right time. I was layed up for months and then in a wheelchair for months. yes it's a sorry thing. I'm still the worst person to drive with.

Dakota~
There remains a sister behind these tears
Falling still - after twenty brotherless years.

So poignant the message -
So tremendously I feel the sorrow.

Dakota:  This is so sad and so true.  I know of someone who did drink and drive.  The saddest part of all was that he DID hit someone but the laws weren't the same as they are now. It was considered an "accident".  Thank-God! the law has been changed since then.  Beautifully written and well said! Thanks for sharing.
