I wrote "Samuel's Sleep" for my brother's son Samuel who died of SIDS, a few years ago. This is for all parents and families who have lost a dear child to SIDS. Samuel's Sleep. ~~Daniel J D~~ A thousand kilometres to drive The shock of the call so sudden Samuel, died in his sleep "Easy Gerry, take care of Josie We'll be by your sides in a short while. Samuel, the little baby is gone An angel has come to take another Samuel, will never see the pastures Never run, never smile, never learn On Earth. Samuel, has gone to heaven He was not for this earth A thousand kilometres in a few hours A million tears in a few minutes A mother and father lament A little baby, so fragile has gone. On the dresser, a single picture A sleeping newborn On the casket, a single picture A baby sleeps, a mother cries On the tombstone, a single picture A baby, eyes closed, a father trembles Samuel, is gone Like many before, such a mystery Soon the hurt will be gone The mystery will be no more. Please help fight SIDS now. Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love (Daniel J D) |

Very very sad story and my heart goes out to the parents...it's always so unbelievably final when they are finally gone.....good write and a job well done these kinds of things must be talked about....some of these terrible conditions seem like they are from outer space or something....God bless you for having the heart and courage to write about it....take care ...ethome |

JD~ Very tenderly touching. I agree that continued research is the answer to finding a prevention for this tragic happening. I pray it's done soon. *Hugs* to Samuel's memory. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Ethome, Yes, we must make more people aware, and keep those who have been affected in our hearts. Show them the courage that the fight is not over, a cure will be found. Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love (Daniel J D) |

This is heartwrenching....my deepest sympathy for you and your family. Such a well-written poem; I could feel it strongly. I agree that research needs to be done about this; perhaps an answer to this mystery could be found soon. Pepper "A poem is the very image of life expressed in its eternal truth." Such a heartwrenching poem for the innocent Samuel. I agree we need to research and find a cure or at least a prevention. Prayers to you and your family. Be well Kethry Why do yesterdays remain and todays pass by ...unnoticed? Rex E. Alford |

I seen your poem and I have been trying to avoid reading it. Somehow one can put those memories deep inside and then they just come out one day..then mor days. I watched my cousin go through this three years ago. They were very young and they thought that was their punishment because there was no wedlock,etc.. May we all support the research! I cant imagine wakeing up and finding my child not responding to me. GREAT POEM and I apologize for the long reply. PLY |

Victoria, Marge, Butterflies, Thank you for your replies. Please let many people know about SIDS, it is the only way we will convince governments of the need to find a way of preventing it. Too many people out there are hurting. Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love (Daniel J D) |
