Between a laugh and a tear...

0 posted 2000-11-12 07:56 AM

On Saturday, August 12, the Russian nuclear submarine Kursk, carrying a crew of 118, sank in the icy waters of the Barents Sea. This is dedicated to the memories of all the brave souls who have lost their lives in the service of their country

Kursk

On the barren shores they silently stand
Thoughts passing through time like grains of sand
They don't know or care the reasons why
Loved ones now lost, they can but cry

Those brave men heard the mariners call
Served their country, stood proud and tall
There were none better the pride of the fleet
Set sail with never a thought to the end they'd meet

Trapped far below, cold, dark and alone!
Shed a silent tear, their fate now known
Thoughts they drift to what might have been
Friends and loved ones, to never again be seen

That cold grey sea claimed their lives that day
Only memories now, as for their souls we pray

"The heart and soul have no illusion of boundries when friendship is the quest"

A fitting albeit sad tribute for the weekend, EagleOne. Thank you.

A nice tribute to the men who fell part of such a great tragedy. One that perhaps could have been prevented if international help had been accepted earlier: who knows?

Thanks
Jon

Eddie, only a man with a heart as yours can truly say these words in tribute and have it hit home. I appreciate your time and words to memorialize this sad event. The families would be honored by your words. Thank you for reminding us all and taking time to remember these men. Ron

A worthy tribute sir. One can only imagine these brave sailors last moments - the letters that have been found are heartwrenching!

Sigh...you touch this womans heart with this...as a former navy spouse I know the terror these families felt...and who can even begin to know what was in the hearts of those brave men? Thank you...thank you

A fitting tribute, EagleOne. It broke my heart to hear of the sailors on the Kursk.
