A simple "thank you" is all I can say
But my gratitude fills every day
For, all in all, I've had things pretty nice
And I owe so much to your sacrifice.
Freedom to worship and dreams ours to choose
Are gifts from those with everything to lose.
You left homes and loves and all you held dear
So that other folks could live without fear.
You endured hardships, risked your very life -
Were paid in nightmares and terrible strife.
Of course, I can't restore your innocence
Or the years you gave to freedom's defense
But to all veterans, most sincerely,
I thank you that my life is one lived free.

You've softly paid a tribute to the heroes.
My heart hugs you.

Thank you all so very much. I'd like to think I'd be grateful regardless... but since the men most dear to my heart served and sacrificed, I can never forget or cease to give thanks...

Sunshine: The sad fact is that however much thanks we owe to those who went before, there aren't that many left... which is why I consider it all the more important to thank those I can while I can. *S* My Dad is almost 82 and the gatherings of WWII veterans have fewer and fewer attendees.

Thank you for reading... I'm sorry I ignored you earlier... but when that Toe character is around, he has 100% of my attention! *G*

What a wonderful tribute of thanks and heartfelt accolades from you.  I don't know of a veteran or a person that knows a veteran that wouldn't be touched by this piece and believe me, I know.  You are a treasure to us all.
