for the crew
of the USS Cole

Precious lives taken away
and so it seems
once again brave sailors
have lost their dreams.
How could they have known
on that very day
the hull of their ship
would be literally blown away.
In shocking news
the headlines read
thirty nine wounded
and seventeen dead.
A crew trusting
in their fellow man
faced unknown danger
in a foreign land.
An unfortunate situation
for these trusting women and men
seeing not the life threatening
situation close at hand.
Now rapidly progressing
to a catastrophe
not on their list
of possibilities or probabilities.
The time has come
to count the cost.
One more time
precious lives are lost.
Who can possibly pay
the price of life.
Who could predict or bear
the ensuing pain and strife.
God we trust in you
to take these souls,
to soothe and heal
the families woe's,
and God please bless
the crew of
the USS Cole.

Jameslee@Veteran's day 2000
My heart feels the pain.
I offer this poem on Veteran's day
as a loving Memorial
for the Crew of the Cole.
I toast you brave men and women all.

If they could, they would have said...

"thank you..."

James, for posting this tribute you deserve a medal, would you accept a prayer for the fallen instead.

Be well

James...as a former Navy spouse...Thank you...its a frightening thing...watching that ship leave port and never knowing if your loved one and friends are going to return to you. Too many times they dont...and no one seems to recognize their sacrifice anymore.

James,

You have brought tears to my eyes my friend.  This was a wonderful tribute to those who lost their lives in the name of freedom.  Excellent writing.
