state of confusion

For Courtney

She was a burgeoning,
buttery flower
who grew
in golden sand
that trickled down
over the centuries
to spread an
alluvial fan,
shelter
from arid wind,
ruthless sun.

So rare is desert rain -
that sudden squalls
rip open the sky,
forming transitory rivers
that slice deep
lifeless gutters
to be remembered
next year.

It was naïve to assume
that she would be safe,
swift the fury
filled with tears
that took her from us
on that rainy day
So rare.

Courtney was a 12 year old child that was kidnapped and murdered on November 8, 2000. Her body was found by a fisherman in a river. Her murderer is still at large.

Corinne~
This is so tenderly done -
makes me stop to let the tears flow.

Thank you, sweet lady - for sharing this
sad story of Courtney.
God, how it hurts.

You hold such power and grace in your
pen...without the note attached it would
have tugged at the heart but knowing the
circumstances...my heart weeps for this
beautiful child and all those like her.
You are a woman with a heart of gold and
it shines in every one of your pieces~

Corinne, nice to see your most vivid and stark full of reality pen at work. This was a little to real, and the thought of it sickens me. This world is much too cruel, at times.

Corrine a powerful yet tenderly written poem which makes it all the more an- unerving. excellently written. And may Courtney rest in peace.

I cannot find the appropriate words of praise for your excellent portrayal of such a heartbreaking event...it leaves me undone...

Thank you, Marge, a depressing world at times. She was last seen two blocks from home in the town where I work.  The fisherman saw a man dump her body into the river, but they haven't caught him yet.

Thank you, Walt, Highlander and Butterflies. There is nothing so sad as a child's life snuffed out by the scum of this earth.

Thank you, Park, Brian and Sunshine.
