THE SOUND OF RUSTLING FLOWING THROUGH THE TREES
THE SCENT OF LEAVES WAIFTING ON THE BREEZE

MEMORIES OF THE PAST TRIGGERED BY THE DAY
MEMORIES OF THE DAY, GOD TOOK MY FATHER AWAY

A MAN OF STRENGTH, NO WEAKNESS IN SIGHT
A MAN OF COURAGE, NEVER BACKING FROM A FIGHT

A MIND AS SHARP AS A RAZORS EDGE
DEVOTION TO FAMILY WAS HIS PLEDGE

NO HUGS , NO KISSES, NO I LOVE YOU’S SPOKEN
NO WORDS OR PROMISES EVER BROKEN

AN UNSPOKEN LOVE FELT IN THE HEART
I KNEW IT WAS THERE FROM THE VERY START

SO MANY THINGS I MISS OF THE MAN
TO LOSE HIM THEN WAS NOT MY PLAN

IF I COULD MAKE ONE WISH FOR ME
I’D WISH MY CHILDREN MY FATHER TO SEE

WHEN I LOOK AT THEM, THERE HE STANDS
HIS EYES, HIS EARS, HIS STRONG HANDS

SO WHEN I MISS HIM AND FEEL ALONE
I TAKE A GOOD LOOK AROUND MY HOME

HE’S HERE, HE’S THERE, HE’S EVERYWHERE
HE’S IN MY HEART FOR ME TO SHARE

FOR WHEN I SHARE MY THOUGHTS OF HIM
MY FRIEND, MY FATHER, HE LIVES AGAIN

Dakota--

this is beautiful even if it is filled
with much sadness. may your father be
resting in peace high in heaven where
he belongs. take care.

A father peaks through
The clouds from up above
Smiles down at his son
“I’m so proud” is what he’s thinking of

So content at what he sees
He pours his love down to his son
He shows it through his memories
Reminding his son that he’s not gone

From heaven he watches
A man with so much strength
So much love and courage
He gave him everything to go the length

He sees his son
With children of his own
He sees his own reflection
In his son now that he’s grown

He smiles at him
Through his children’s eyes
Taunts at him
Through his children’s lies

When he peaks through heaven’s door
To keep an eye on his son, with love
He lovingly kisses him with memories
Proudly smiles,
“You're doing Great! A better son I could not have”

Dakota, this was beautiful and very touching.
The love you have for him shows through out your whole poem and the love you have for your children shows through your responses. You will do for your children what your dad did for you.  Just the fact that you want to do that shows me that you will but you'll do it in your own way just as your father did it his way. This poem really touched me. I hope it brought some comfort. Thanks for sharing.

This is a wonderful tribute.  It made me think of my own father and how much I miss him.

Thank you Rose, I am glad you liked it...It goes to show those that pass on never really die as long as we keep them in our hearts...
