View From Above Everest. ~~~Daniel J D~~~ Fed up, I took a climb up Everest Hours, of painful joints at rest Winds so cold, piercing skin so dry Nights, so frightful, stars shining the sky Left behind, years of toiling Many days, of emptiness and lonely feeling Now is the time to be nature's partner Hoping to find many an answer. Hit the summit before sunset Body, weary, exhausted eyes blinded Raging winds, blowing fiercely moving me about Made it, what now, tent pitched Blizzards of mind, blizzards of nature's sounds Many before have tread upon this height Headed down, heading home, many never returned Perhaps, there were no answer in their quest. Morning, no sounds of birds, just light snow Washed my weariness, tended to my congealed toes Memories of life below, entered my being As I stared at the vast below Covered in clouds, so thick, nothing is obvious And yet, beneath this peak, a tumultuous world Awakens, works, eats, sleeps, hates, and loves I see now, as the clouds dissipate clearly To the East, children begging, children dying Mothers crying as a baby dies trying to survive Animals better fed than humans, vets having fun Whilst many people have no health care, in pain Floods, typhoons, eruptions and emotions Black deaths, ebola and Aids Unclean waters, bloodied by wars raging. To the South, I see hatred, hurt Separation of race and religion Slaves, child labourers, and prostitution Fathers idle as children are sold to corporations Little fingers not even developed In a developing world gone mad I see environmental degradation Hills and mountains bald and bare Tribes into cities, pushed around No place to rest, sifting through mud and slime Of mountains of waste, to survive. To the North, I see bombs and mines I see ruins and destitution Broken dreams, nightmares, drugs and wines Malnutrition, and despair, dictatorships Mercury levels high, pollution No harmony, no rest, corruption Rage through territories under control Lawlessness, crime and rejection Fires ever burning, as hearts expire In unhealthy states of brokenness Children with weapons controlling Outskirts where only the daring emerge. To the West, I see wealth, I see cleanliness I see gains, and technological advances Bank accounts, gaining interests The work of cheap labour making life easier As castles and mansions amongst manicured gardens Spring up from land that once fed thousands Policies favouring a few from a few Yet, millions polled for a say, only for a day Voices are heard, then put away Frenzied parties, food wasted. Divorces on the internet, affairs for play Consuming, indulging, sleeping under fine silk Hours, I must have stood, it is now dusk Looking at my feet, I wished I could walk But I did not feel the strength to head back I heard a clear voice of a child above Looking up, I knew I was not alone I could see happiness, rainbows, and love Heaven, was near. I heard the music of Beethoven I saw, plants and animals long extinct I saw mechanics taking bombs apart Clean rivers, lots of fish, clean air People walking hands in hands I saw Martin Luther King Jr walking A white child and a black child hand in hands Mother Teresa, being taken care of by children Then, the sound of the child again, In the background angels humming, smiling Telling me there was work to be done. Daddy where are you? Please come home. My strength with me I began descending To the waiting arms of my family. Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love (Daniel J D) [This message has been edited by Daniel J D (edited 11-08-2000).] |

Daniel, this is an amazing poem. tells it like it is and the hope in the end. Yes, even one individual can make a difference, even just by going back home to your loved ones. There's always a beginning, even when it looks like the end. Tossing words like wishful coins into the deep well of an open heart. R. fox |

JD~ Wow ! You saw with the eyes of an explorer - many truths in what you shared. 'In the background angels humming, smiling Telling me there was work to be done.' Yes ... much work to be done. I enjoyed the climb ... ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Ron, Cheers and thank you, yes the view is simply frightening and confusing, but there is always hope. Marge, The presence of angels tell stories of peace and harmony. They tell of destitutes finding strength to face another day. They make us realise the importance of being alive. Thank you so very much. Charisma, I hope I did not bring back bad memories. Hope you are feeling better, life goes on for those with the strength of a good meaning heart. Thank you. BloomingRose, You are so kind, thank you for your wonderful comments. Kethry, It is a real climb, tough up and tougher down, but there is always happiness to strive for. Aimster, Thank you so very much, your words are always very comforting. I hope the climb up did some good. Paula, I know you are always there for me and that feels good to know.
