Alive at 3 A.M. -or- The Boogeyman Boogie ©2000 Christopher Ward yeah... the Silence can be deafening. sometimes hammering with the bruising strum of a hundred memories. each one plays like The new pop single.. over and over and over and... and it's oppressive - overwhelming They attack from the corners, the ceiling, the walls and yes, from under the bed... kinda like the Monster, that one which wasn't real... until you stopped looking. yeah, the boogey-oogy-man... (all in your imagination, mom said) sneaky, it waits for you to shut your eyes close your mind feel safe. yeah - then it jumps out, crashes past all the defenses you thought you had -the solid walls of Nothingness?- and is jumpingjumpingjumping on your bed, in your head, choking with the chains of your insecure self-delusions then swallowing your screams, your dreams dancing with glee, knowing you'll never stop bleeding from the inside... but wait - what about that tunnel - the Light..? this ray of Hope, tiny pinhole that it might be, out there on the edges of Awareness... yeah, the one just out of reach? hell, it's so small you can't even plug it with a Smile... though maybe with a Thought. it is called Logic, or so I hear. but what is that really? I thought Dreams only came from within the heart - not from the promise of some obscure adage everyone quotes by rote each a self-styled expert of an idea they understand no better than the Toad knows the Prince. aww, who cares anyway, how could I hear it... with all the Noise in this place? |

You are amazing. This one is the image of a thought tormented restless night. I was going to quote some favorite lines, but then I realized the irony of the "quote by rote"-- I thought better of it---smile. Congratulations on this exquisite post for 4000, and it has been my pleasure to read... I thank you. HUGS. |

Awesome...I liked it a lot, especially the first verse. Memories playing over and over...except unlike the new song of the week, I don't get tired of the memories-if they're good ones. The bad ones can be hard as heck...loved this. Elizabeth< !signature--> You cling to your ways and leave mine to me. Seems I know the steps to this BoogeyMan Boogie. Chris....this is amazing from begining to end. Starting with deafening silence and ending with Noise. Funny how silence can be so clamorous and tumultuous eh? Excellent m'friend! < !signature--> ~Sheri "The things that come to those that wait may be the things left by those who got there first" [This message has been edited by Irie (edited 11-07-2000).] |

chilling, vivid, and open-ended...very provoking. i dig it. very very hip indeed. --------------- it is called Logic, or so I hear. but what is that really? I thought Dreams only came from within the heart - not from the promise of some obscure adage everyone quotes by rote each a self-styled expert of an idea they understand no better than the Toad knows the Prince. aww, who cares anyway, how could I hear it... with all the Noise in this place? --------------- man, that's the stuff. and the boogeyman taps a dance on your head... Chris, this was GREAT! Thanks! Karilea If I whisper, will you listen?... I would rather be silent and write, then speak loudly and be bound. KRJ |

haha you are very cute today..but I did love this phrase Christopher this ray of Hope... out there on the edges of Awareness... would make a wonderful poem in theme (excluding the boogeyman of course) ~Wynter "The worst prison would be a closed heart". ...Pope John Paul II |

"the Silence can be deafening. sometimes hammering with the bruising strum of a hundred memories." "sneaky, it waits for you to shut your eyes close your mind feel safe. yeah - then it jumps out, crashes past all the defenses" "choking with the chains of your insecure self-delusions then swallowing your screams, your dreams dancing with glee, knowing you'll never stop bleeding from the inside..." Magnificent writing! Good Lord Chris ... I feel like you've just ripped my thoughts out of my brain and plunked them down here in such glaring clarity. I know these thoughts well, and you've penned them perfectly. An excellent adventure through your mind ... loved this! Best wishes, /Kit |

"with the bruising strum of a hundred memories. each one plays like The new pop single.. over and over and over and... and it's oppressive - overwhelming" What a piece, Chris! Memories can be overwhelming after living through them for awhile... I hope you find refuge from this monster that is stalking you, my friend. False gems may shine as brightly as the genuine article, but there are always those who can tell the difference. |

Wow - I just came up with a totally obscure interpretation, that just seems so glaringly apparent to me. (we don't need to go into just how strange I really am) This though...hehehe: "aww, who cares anyway, how could I hear it... with all the Noise in this place?" Got a pretty good chuckle out of it, lemmetellya. With all that pop music and multiple personalities singing along...oh, right...that's just me. lol Many BOL on this one! |

Strikes a big chord, crescendo, bass drum, symphony here...logic has little chance against those damn loud motor-revving-up memories that come bouncing out at, yep, around three....powerful stuff, my man. |

Thanks for the ray of warmth! Wynter - But you can't exclude the Boogeyman! He'll get mad!!! Kit - How do you always manage to bring a smile to my face??? You are amazing!!! Mike - Thank you - though I'm sorry this is something others can understand - wonder if there's an epidemic goin' round? Thank you all, Chris |
