              “BIRTH OF A POET”
                        by

Didn’t know it was coming, there was a thundering smash,
my head hit the car window,
                happened so very fast…
Changed my life in an instant, but not knowing then,
the many years I would spend in pain,
                it was about to begin…

When I awoke, I asked myself, “Who am I”?
        I didn’t really know,
                and I couldn’t go back in time…
A name I searched my mind for, but nothing came,
        Joe, Fred, George, Jim,
                many crossed my mind,
                      but nothing rang…

So I met the people in white coats, taught me about before,
        therapy they called it,
                speech,
                     coordination,
                            and many more…
In my head the pain wouldn’t stop, until they lay   me on the table,
and then they worked on me,
                until it became acceptable…

The months slowly went by, and I gradually started to heal,
but they told me I would never come back,
                and be ideal…
I did a lot of praying, even got to meet my maker,
he took things inside my head,
and changed them for the better…

The years passed, and gradually I came back from despair,
slowly but surely I accepted the Lord,
and I knew that He cared…
He told me my name is Bill, and went with this personality,
        it felt really good,
to know the two of them went together,
                      actually…

A lot was altered within, things I still can’t talk about,
        but what the hell,
I did awake from that terrible blackout…
My whole world was changed, for better, or for worse,
and at times during those difficult years,
                I felt that I carried a curse…

And then I found out, that I might have this special gift,
I started to write and share it,
                was really quite a shift…
From the life I had lived previously, but today so much different,
I now know I can never go back,
                to what I had before,
                        that damn accident…

I’m still perplexed by the past,
mixing it up at times with the present,
but to be able to sit down and write,
I believe has been my atonement…
So I thank all of you, who read my writings,
and believe that they are adequate…
For they come from deep inside me,
                      but came only after,
                             the
                       “Birth Of A Poet”…

Please forgive me.  And as I said in my first reply.  You are a fine poet today, and

ethome - thank you for your kindness and for the understanding. Yes, amazing as it was, to write now is my passion. Thanks again for visiting me and my writing.

catalinamoon - sure was a story to tell. And your words are very kind, and appreciated.

The Poetic Plumber - no apology necessary, at times things happen. Thanks for the compliments and please do visit again.

Victoria - yes, lucky or perhaps fate stepped in to change things from what they were, and change they did. And He does work in mysterious ways. I feel as if I was given a gift, and am thankful for it.

compassion - thank you for coming by and read this writing of mine. You are so right, some good things did come out of it, and are continuing. Thanks for the wonderful comments, and peace go with you.

Bill, what a fascinating story, and it's true? How neat that you are able to put it (and so much of yourself) into words so well. Take care, dear poet.

Bill, I always enjoy your writings, as I find all the hidden clues you hide within them. And we may walk a path unknown in search of answers, and if we do happen to stumble and fall on that path, it is but just another chance to get up again and continue. fate? luck? divine hand? whatever it is, we find ourselves and realize our dreams. glad you have too. Hey Bill... This was indeed a very difficult and intensely life-defining time for you.  Sometimes we need this sort of eye-opener to remind us about the important things in life - seeing the simple beauty of the world and writing about it for those who aren't looking... Nicely done, my friend..

Bill

I am truly sorry that you had to endure such hardships.  This was very well written so I am pleased that in the end, something good has come of it.  Don't give up - I am a firm believe that the best is yet to come.

Ron - thank you for the kind words that you say. I appreciate that you came by, and enjoy my writings. And yes, you do find those hidden clues. I must say that it does amaze me, but at times I wouldn't mind if you let me know what you see. At times it is a tough road, but also, at times their is a light at the end of a tunnel. Thanks Ron.

Nan - yes, you are so right, and we all should look and see what the really important things in life are. As you say, the simple beauty of the world and writing about it. Thanks Nan, for understanding.

Wilfred - thank you for the kind words, and yes, a very, very rough time. And thanks for saying 'we get to read your poetry'. That has much meaning to me.

Ariana - I believe that something good has come out of it, and it is writing. I love to write, and would rather do that, than most anything. Thank you.

Highlander - appreciate the gracious words from you. Thank you much, and thanks for stopping by.
