I Walked a Deserted Road in direction of north to south with an old stone bridge at one end I walked a lonely road today and on it, found my spiritual friend lined straight on either side of me, hedge trees now shed of leave kept their apples of lime green tight, like Christmas balls, they do not grieve here recent marks of "making way" showed up in machine's road mark I stepped quietly down the middle, eyes then rest on newly rotting bark abandoned long ago, this road, it saw travelers of many kind I could hear faded voices of children with the chore of school on their mind phantoms dressed in pant of denim and school dress of cotton twill under morning's sunlight gleam their voice and laughter shrill I could imagine ancient buckboard tugged by stubborn mule hear the ramrod's lonely call as he traveled in morning's cool with the sun upon my back, I espied there in the brush a white of tail, a doe, a buck, whisk away through the bush there, overhead, stretched a skeleton cottonwood fingers scraping the sky never to again drop a leaf to ground awaiting hit of lightening to die paw-prints in the damp below gave view to hidden night's life in the rush of November air came the spirit of all lost strife the sun was soon then covered as winds blew in clouds of rain I left the years of long ago returned to the present once again this deserted road, still, beneath my feet an abandoned bridge, here, of years ago takes my mind a'journeying, takes my breath away and I wonder at the wander of "them," just so. Karilea If I whisper, will you listen?... I would rather be silent and write, then speak loudly and be bound. KRJ |

Kari, this is so evocative, full to bursting of images. I really love this one Kari, you do these so well. Loud applause, bravos and other equally noisy demonstrations of approval. (I know exuberance again, I'll try to keep the noise down to a dull roar!!) Love this as always Mushy Marsha Take back the hope you gave,- I claim Only a memory of the same Robert Browning |

Echoing Marsha here ... applause, applause! What a wonderful journey you've taken my mind to Karilea ... you've woven such beautiful imagery of the past into this historical piece ... lovely! Best wishes, /Kit |
