Under a bed, 'neath a file, or simply written on a page The words of a poet’s soul locked securely in a cage A construction worker, doctor, or a man of hourly wage Imagine behind living eyes there lies a wizened sage A box of poems in a treasure chest, a vault full of gold There's enscribed a journeyman from childhood to ages old Lines and creases, torn and tattered, but adored is every fold The power of the words within, could never be fairly sold A picture drawn, a limerick, maybe a ballad sung aloud Never to see the light of day, never wishing to be proud Where can I see in sweet laid words what I see in every cloud The sonnet lovers, paradellers, or the simple haiku crowd? Poems are power, found in places, by every kind of means They show the world we’re not at all vacant mind machines At times they're engraved in our hopes never meant to be seen The poems of the human’s heart so come ye kings and queens! walt, you are a living inspiration. i must say that i DO love your work. i print it out and take it to my school's poetry club. then i just tack it on my bulletin board. now you know what will happen to this one, and on my board is where the words of the clouds reside i still have "the best poem you ever read" too. you RULE walt. and if i may ask, does your handle stem from whitman? cuz, oddly enough i love his stuff too. I was thinking of the immortal words of Socrates who said,"I drank what?" |

thank you all this poem is dedicated to a close friend of mine who has inspired me along the way. he writes poetry and thoughts and stories in his journal but i can't talk him into sharing them. at first i thought he was selfish but i now understand he has the right to keep it inside. i love poets who can write there feelings and i can respect them for their wishes of privacy. mighty good of me hmm. but yuh one day i hope he gets a lil blinkin file next to his name declaring his first post. til then... |

Walt~ This is wonderful. Yes, there is a poem in each of us waiting to be penned. Some keep the journals closed tight, just like your friend. Others hang 'em out to share and be enjoyed. I'm glad you're one of those ! Thank you for sharing. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

I've never heard it better said or for that matter, read, what stirs within a poet's heart and hides within his head. Walt, love this poem of yours! You have a natural ink for poetic think! Rainydays |

Walt, yet another surprise greeted me this morn in reading yet another delightful poem. I am most impressed with your versatility in style, for many will read your work and giggle, then read something new, thinking it in the same absurdist vein, and find a deep truth written plainly, strongly, sans silliness. I have been and will continue to be a fan of your writing, Walt. For in your writings I see Ogden Nash, Burns, Carroll in your more absurd moments. Then something like this comes along and I must simply marvel at the beauty of the printed word. Put your friend in a full nelson and give him noogies until he agrees to post his stuff, for if he inspired you, I really must read his work! Alicat If I were any more laid back, I'd be in a coma. |

Walt, You must have some friend to inspire such a wonderful piece of poetry like this. I hope he joins us soon. This was great!! LW Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

There's a lot of substance here!! The subject makes the reader feel alive! The "never wishing to be proud" AND "engraved in our hopes never meant to be seen," are, OH SO REAL! Clue me? Are you really asking the question, "Where can I see in sweet laid words what I see in every cloud.?" morelader (somethingsarejustmeant2(b) |

Walt, with your permission, I am taking this King and Queen maker of all wizened souls, and placing it securely in my library, where I may peruse the words at leisure, and relish in the drape of spirit... for it is well done, indeed, and definitely one for the Next Book! YUH!!! YUH YUH!!! There - a true endorsement. Seriously Walt - this is a fine piece of work. Some people are just very shy to share I suppose - they can't see what the reader sees...can't see the quality or the heart in a piece of their making. Lovely work here.
